New DrumCraft Series 6 Finishes!

0

There’s no doubt that the sound of the DrumCraft Series 6 is in a class of its own, but the high-quality satin finishes and satin chrome hardware also make the drums real eye-catchers.

The previous palette of two high-gloss and two satin finishes is now supplemented by two brand-new finishes: Satin Black to Red Fade and Satin Black to Vivid Blue Fade. These are colour gradients that convey a fascinating optical depth.

Compared to monochrome lacquer finishes, gradient finishes exude a flair of their own. Satin Black to Vivid Blue Fade showcases a gentle transition from deep black to an intense night blue, subtly revealing the beautiful grain of the drum shell. Satin Black to Red Fade is reminiscent of the red evening sky just after sunset and therefore appears very natural and organic. The combination of satin finish shells and satin chrome hardware is characteristic of DrumCraft and remains unique.

Mapex Updates, Upgrades and Fully re-tools their MPX Series Snare Drums

0

Mapex is starting the new year strong with the exciting launch of the updated and upgraded MPX Snare Drum Series perfect for any drummer from beginner to seasoned pro.  Expanding to an impressive 18 models, the snares include new high-quality features designed to improve the sound and function while preserving the built-in value for which Mapex is known.

MPX was developed with sound-first principles in mind, and the series offerings fit within the Sonic Flow concept roadmap. “The sonic flow concept is something we’re very proud of here at Mapex,” states brand manager Jeff Mulvihill. “Sound isn’t always a priority when instruments are developed for this segment of the market, but we give every bit as much thought to SOUND as we do to functions, features, and prices.”

Upgrades include the Mapex Armory series throwoff on all standard, deep, and small diameter models, or the reissued and updated Mapex Cast Piccolo throwoff on the shallow drums. Additionally, a much stouter lug casing, 1.3mm triple flanged hoops, and the famed Mapex SONIClear bearing edge produce sonic possibilities with unprecedented variety. Selections can be made from steel shell models, or a newly crafted Maple/Poplar hybrid shell offered in a player’s choice of a transparent natural lacquer finish with chrome hardware or a transparent black lacquer finish with black plated hardware. Classifications pair each model with Deep, Standard, Shallow and Small Diameters as basic Sonic Flow descriptors and then get more specific with shell types and sizes added to aid in any drummer’s search.

Mapex is able to bring this impressive lineup to life, complete with all newly upgraded features while maintaining prices, allowing players to find THEIR snare drum sound while delivering incredible value. Visit the Mapex Webpage or any Mapex Retailer for a full listing of these exciting new instruments and discover where Sonics meet value with MPX.

Jojo Mayer Joins Line-Up at The UK Drum Show 2023

0

Following the recent news of Cindy Blackman appearing on the main stage at The UK Drum Show 2023, organisers Gold Media & Events are thrilled to welcome another drumming legend, Jojo Mayer to the main stage in association with Sonor.

Swiss born Jojo Mayer started playing drums at an early age and had his first public performance at 2 sitting in with his dad’s band.

At age 18 he received his first international exposure when touring with Monty Alexander and backing up Jazz legends such as Dizzy Gillespie and Nina Simone.

In the early 90’s he moved from Europe to NYC where he worked as a first call sideman for a wide range of artists and styles.

As a leader he created his seminal work with NERVE which established him as one of the great performers and innovators on the instrument. His concepts and techniques of reverse engineering electronic drumbeats in real time on a acoustic drum set introduced a new paradigm and opened the door for an entire generation of musicians to follow.

In 2014 Modern Drummer Magazines listed him as one of the 50 Greatest Drummers of All Time.

Jojo to perform latest solo project ME/MACHINE

ME/MACHINE is an adventure where human performance and the archaic power of drums interact with cutting edge generative music technology in real-time.

Jojo Mayer explores new possibilities, narratives and syntax of how humans could coexist with digital technology in a symbiotic way. An artistic response to face an increasingly unpredictable and fast approaching future, where reliance on familiar protocol and planning could become more difficult – and improvisation more important instead.

As with his band NERVE, electronic music has been a central influence in Jojo Mayer’s seminal work for the past decades. He spearheaded the movement of an entire generation of drummers to reverse engineer machine rhythms on acoustic drum set. ME/MACHINE constitutes the next chapter in this love affair.

“The initial impulse for ME/MACHINE came during an experimental recording session with Brian Eno shortly before the onset of the pandemic. I got struck by the ramifications generative, algorithmic technologies and AI will have on the future of music and thought: If only I had a year off, I would get down with this. And when all over sudden the world stood still and international touring came to a halt, it created an unexpected opportunity to fully immerse myself with these new tools to develop a music engine that acknowledges, follows, interprets and mutates input from my drumming. It’s my Corona baby.” – Jojo Mayer

ME/MACHINE – an improvisational duet between a machine imitating human behavior and a human imitating idiosyncrasies of a machine.
Creating a closed loop interplay between the innovations of man and machine, ME/MACHINE expands notions of cause, effect and simultaneity – ultimately evoking a form of analytic fourth–dimensional perception.

“New Gold” Now Available in EFNOTE Kit Library

0

Artesia Pro Uses Gorillaz New Single “New Gold” (feat. Tame Impala and Bootie Brown of The Pharcyde) To Showcase and Compare EFNOTE 3/3X’s Internal Sounds and Superior Drummer 3 (The Widely-Considered GOAT of drum softwares), and the EFNOTE 3X MADE IT BETTER!

The VIDEO begins by showcasing both the EFNOTE 3X internal sounds, and Superior Drummer 3 simultaneously, with a combined 24 channels of audio sending from the kit. (The original drum audio was extracted using Moises) then SD3 is pulled away to reveal the all-new “New Gold” preset kit, created by Michael Bedard, (NERD ALERT!!) which utilize the tom rim zones with 808-esque “eKick 2” tuned bass drops and an “EL Clap”, then layers in a PL Birch S14x5.5 w/ YM Loose S14x5.5 snares, as well as layering in a secondary “EL eKick 10” sample on top of the YM Power K22x16. This allows Michael to play a hybrid part, which if you listen closely, sounds like multiple rhythm tracks but is not.

The EFNOTE 3X itself is augmented by a 14” snare (EFD-S1455-BO), as well as an added 17” FX cymbal (EFD-C17FX). The module knows which pad is augmented and assigns it’s samples accordingly. This is both an A/B, A+B comparison, showing the strength of this seemingly simple module. It’s incredible how far e-Drumming has come.
