Christopher Lamb Joins Majestic Percussion

0

Majestic Percussion is pleased to welcome world renowned artist Christopher Lamb to the Majestic family. Maintaining a diverse and unparalleled career as both a performer and educator for over three decades, Christopher currently holds the The Constance R. Hoguet Friends of the Philharmonic Chair of Principal Percussionist in the New York Philharmonic as well as Chair of the Percussion department at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music.

Upon reflecting on the partnership, Lamb recalls, “Every day brings new musical opportunities and I will always “go to” whatever instrument “goes with” the specific musical situation or works best in a particular space.” Majestic’s impressive range of products, design capabilities, and understanding of the landscape of a percussionist’s musical needs is what drew Lamb to the company, “Because the events in a concert hall are quite varied, the idea of a collection of instruments, specifically the Opus One Snare Drum Series, demonstrates insight and know-how that will give Majestic a footprint on the big stage. That collective global thinking, flexibility and “can-do” attitude is something any musician would want to find when dealing with any instrument maker.”

In addition to presenting clinics and master classes throughout the United States and abroad, Christopher has performed as a soloist with several major orchestras in the United States, along with The London Philharmonic Orchestra, Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw, Leipzig’s Gewandhaus Orchestra, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. He also won a Grammy for Best Classical Instrumental Soloist for his recording of Schwantner’s Percussion Concerto with the Nashville Symphony in 2011. Majestic US Brand Manager Nic Milliner says of Lamb, “Chris was an integral part of the development of the new Opus One snare drum series and it was amazing to witness the knowledge, passion, and attention to detail he brought to the project. He is known to the world as a virtuoso player and a revered educator but also brings years of valuable hands-on experience with some of the most coveted percussion instruments in existence. It’s an honor and an amazing opportunity for the Majestic to collaborate with Chris now and into the future.”

About Majestic Percussion:
Majestic Percussion traces its beginnings to 1921 with the founding of the Van der Glas company in The Netherlands. The Majestic brand became known for producing high-quality drum sets in the 1960’s, and was gradually expanded to offer the full range of concert percussion instruments that it is known for throughout the world today. Majestic has become the preferred brand of many discriminating percussion performers and educators who know they can rely on carefully constructed instruments born from both traditional percussion heritage and a culture of innovation.

Downing Drums Inventor Seeks Manufacturer

0

With over 40 years of experience in the music industry, as a performer and teacher, Mike Downing, an inventor and designer of musical instruments, is looking for a collaboration in the music industry with a manufacturer of musical instruments.

Having a strong background as a machinist and knowledge of mechanical drawing and patent law, Mike has successfully submitted and prosecuted U.S. patents. Downing claims that “he has developed the only fully resonant dual tension free floating drum which has received recognition from well-known publications such as Modern Drummer, Jazz Times and Drum magazine,” as well as performing master classes on the principle of physics applied in their patent of free-floating drums.

VISIT THE UK DRUM SHOW – WWW.THEUKDRUMSHOW.COM

Mike has  been a guest speaker at NYU, Berklee School of Music, University of Buffalo and many other prestigious universities, and presented at trade shows such as PASIC, NAMM, Chicago Drum Show and Connecticut Drum Show. Furthermore, has numerous other designs in different degrees of completion, some of which involve solving intonation problems on fretted instruments, a new design for mounting and tuning timpani, expansion on capabilities of instruments like the melodica and tension mechanisms for snare drums.

With a strong passion for music and a realisation that some of his designs may not reach completion without the support of a research and development department and being a team player Mike feels that with proper protections for all, he can make significant changes in the music industry.

Mike welcomes the opportunity to open a dialogue to discuss future collaborations and ideas, to demonstrate what he has already accomplished and future goals and feels if you share his passion, “we can make this work and take our place as leaders in the development of musical instruments.”.

Revolution, as the name suggests, is a turning point in Premier’s approach to beginner drum kits. Packed full of features, it sets the new standard.

Ready to play, all Revolution kits are easy to set-up and come complete with everything an aspiring drummer needs straight out of the box – including a full five-piece drum kit, snare stand, hi-hat and cymbal stands to mount the 14” hi-hat and 16” crash/ride cymbal on, as well as a single bass pedal, drum stool and pair of 5A drumsticks. The shells are carefully formed from 7.5mm, 6-ply poplar for incredible punch and articulation whilst a 45-degree bearing edge improves head contact and Revolution’s overall sound. Premier’s low-mass tension lug castings offer stable tuning and are designed to allow the poplar shell to resonate with more vibrance. The addition of a crisp and responsive 14″ x 5″ wooden snare makes Revolution a great all-rounder that is capable of supporting any drummer on their newfound musical journey.

Strong and reliable, all hardware included with Revolution supports the heaviest of hitters thanks to its double braced legs. The adjustable nature of each stand and the Roklok style tom holder ensure an optimised playing position can easily be achieved for players of any height, allowing them to feel comfortable when sat at the kit.

Whether you are just starting out, or forming your first band, the included cymbal package means beginner drummers have a great sounding set that are ideal for learning to keep time and basic rhythmic patterns. Furthermore, two cymbal expansion packs (available separately) allow you to grow with your kit by adding a 10” splash or 20” ride cymbal to your existing set-up.

Available in a choice of three durable PVC finishes, offset against the iconic “P” badge, Revolution drums embrace your individuality at home, band rehearsals or even your first gig. So, like many great drummers past and present, make your first drum kit a Premier.”

Drum Workshop Puts Innovation On Display at 50TH Anniversary Celebration

0

Kicking off a celebration open to the entire community, from the general public to artists, dealers, distributors and enthusiasts alike, Drum Workshop, Inc. (DW) today highlighted its 50-year legacy of innovation, while demonstrating its continued commitment to inspire the next generation of drummers with the introduction of breakthrough technology solutions. Artists, celebrities and VIPs attended the company’s celebration and DW artist Sheila E., best known for her longstanding collaboration with Prince, provided the entertainment.

The 50th Anniversary represents a significant milestone for the company which has built a reputation as the preferred brand of drums and hardware by both professionals and enthusiasts globally.  With five decades of product innovations in acoustic drums, pedals and hardware to celebrate, the company is not resting on what’s worked in the past.

We have always looked to improve the tools that drummers have at their disposal, and that is what we’ll continue to do in the years ahead,” said Don Lombardi, chief product officer and co-founder of Drum Workshop. “Looking back to 1972 when John and I started the company right here in Santa Monica, we could not be more proud of what the team has accomplished together and in close partnership with the entire drumming community.”

Thomas Lang playing the DWe

Revealed at the event was DWe, a first-of-its-kind wireless acoustic electronic convertible drum set. Under development for several years, DWe is designed to blur the lines between acoustic and electronic drums and deliver a natural playing experience.  DWe adds innovative, patented technology to the artisan, hand-crafted acoustic drum shells that DW is known for worldwide.

Launching in 2023 and manufactured in DW’s California custom shop, DWe will deliver industry advances in electronic drums with features including true acoustic to electronic convertibility, wireless connectivity, three zone metal cymbals and a premium sample library.

Chad Wackerman playing the DWe

DWe will deliver the most authentic playing experience in the market for drummers whether played acoustically or electronically,” says John Good, senior executive vice president and co-founder of Drum Workshop. “Our focus has always been helping drummers elevate their craft by delivering new innovation, and DWe is no exception.”

Lombardi added, “Including technology in the drummer’s toolkit will enable them to introduce new creative ways to express themselves.  DWe solves the issue of having to choose between electronic or acoustic drums and gives drummers the ability to add new sounds to their setup.”

In addition to the reveal of DWe and to celebrate the 50-year milestone, DW Drums is releasing a 50th Anniversary Limited-Edition suite of products available globally beginning November 4.

  • DW Collector’s Series 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Drums are constructed from a combination of persimmon, a hard tone wood similar to purpleheart that produces thick attack and projection, combined with spruce that boosts warmth and tonality. Each drum comes with a veneer of rare, quilted maple fitted with inlaid maple and rosewood 50th Anniversary badges and are fitted with antique gold hardware. Edge®
  • The Limited Edition drums are available in a 6-piece shell pack, a 6.5”x14” snare and a 6.5”x14” Edge® snare drum.
  • 5050 PedalThe iconic 5000 pedal has become the industry standard bass drum pedal after its launch in 1977. Five decades later, the company is celebrating its 50th anniversary with the release of a limited edition of the iconic 5000 pedal. Incorporating a DW50 signature logo carbon fiber footboard and heel plate, the Limited Edition 50th Anniversary DW 5050 Carbon Fiber Single and Double Pedals possess the same speed, precision and durability you expect — at a reduced weight.

Drum Workshop was acquired by Roland Corporation earlier this fall. DW will continue to operate as a wholly owned subsidiary, with both organizations benefiting from their shared areas of expertise.  Masahiro Minowa, chief innovation officer of Roland added, “We are excited for DW to reveal this breakthrough innovation and support DW in blending the worlds of acoustic and electronic drums into one seamless package that benefits all drummers.”

DW’s 50th Anniversary Celebration runs through November 7, and more information can be found at www.dwdrums.com/dw50 for a schedule of drum clinics, talks and roundtables. The events are free and open to the public, however, are ticketed on a first come, first serve basis due to capacity constraints.  Additionally, some events will be live streamed on the company’s website at www.dwdrums.com.

DrumCraft Announce 2022 Limited Edition’s

0

There’s no doubt that the sound of the Drumcraft Series 6 is in a class of its own, but the high-quality lacquer finishes also make the drums real eye-catchers. The previous palette of two high-gloss and two satin finishes is now supplemented by two brand-new finishes: Black To Red Fade and Black To Vivid Blue Fade. These are colour gradients that convey a fascinating optical depth. Both variants are limited editions and are therefore only available in limited quantities.

Compared to monochrome lacquer finishes, gradient finishes exude a flair of their own. Black To Vivid Blue Fade showcases a gentle transition from deep black to an intense night blue, subtly revealing the beautiful grain of the drum shell. Black To Red Fade is reminiscent of the red evening sky just after sunset and therefore appears very natural and organic.
