Percussion specialists Gon Bops has recently announced several new additions to their ranges being launched at the 2018 NAMM show led by new Roberto Quintero signature Fiberglass Congas and Bongo. Crafted from premium fiberglass shells with Gon Bops California Series Contour Hardware and custom Remo Skyndeep heads, Gon Bops says the new drums produce deep, resonant bass tones and loud, cutting highs. The Congas are offered in Conga, Tumba and Super Tumba sizes, while the Bongo is a 7” & 8.5″ pairing.
100% hand-woven in Brazil from sustainable natural materials, Gon Bops Caxixi ‘deliver lively, organic sounds that provide excellent rhythmic accompaniment and color’. The combination of wild banana tree seeds striking the hard gourd-skin base produces a sharp, high-pitched tone, contrasting with the softer, deeper pitch when the seeds strike the woven body. Sold as single shakers in three sizes – mini, small and large – Gon Bops Caxixi are ideal for playing an endless variety of rhythms and sound effects. They can be played individually, or as different-sized pairs for contrasting tones.
Also new will be Fiesta Cajon models, offering sound and quality well above their price point, Gon Bops claims. All four new models feature internal snare wires, extra-large rubber feet for superior isolation, a rubber seat pad and a size and form factor that is beginner friendly. In addition, the cajons are offered in four new colours chosen to make a bold statement both in stores and on the stage.
Hand crafted from hand-selected, high-density hickory, new Gon Bops Hickory Claves (PCLAVH) offer: ‘piercing, high-pitched attack with a sonic profile almost identical to classic Rosewood claves’. Both the clave and striker are 8.25” x 1” (209.5mm x 25.4 mm) in size.
Finally, there’s a new Gon Bops Bongo Duffel Bag which includes an adjustable padded divider for safely transporting bells, tambourines, or other small percussion instruments, without damaging the bongo shells or head.
