From Rookie Drummer to Mapex Canada Endorsee: The Truth Untold’s Tyler Randall

13 years ago, a stroke of luck landed Aylmer Ontario then rookie-drummer, Tyler Randall, on the mainstage. His mother – unbeknownst to him – entered young Randall into a hometown radio contest which saw hopefuls providing the backbeat to Canadian country legend Shania Twain, live in an arena in front of tens of thousands of adoring fans.

Now, as the co-founder of award-winning rock band, The Truth Untold, alongside Singer/Guitarist Rose Cora Perry, Randall is racking up musical accolades of his own including being named the newest addition to the Mapex Canada family.

Formed in conjunction with the release of Perry’s critically-acclaimed sophomore solo album, “Onto the Floor”, within a mere year of coming together, The Truth Untold have played to crowds exceeding 25,000 themselves on the Southwestern Ontario festival circuit.

A sponsorship deal Perry landed, while still in her teens, with DaisyRock Guitars resulted in them receiving a noteworthy invitation to perform as the only Canadian act at this year’s Summer NAMM in Nashville.

Randall and Perry, eager to leverage the opportunity to initiate sponsorship discussions with highly sought after instrument manufacturers, including Mapex Canada, issued invitations of their Nashville debut to the A&R heads of said companies.

As it so happens luck was in the cards once again for Randall when he learned that Mapex Canada had plans to expand their artist roster for 2018.

Impressed by the professionalism of their approach, The Truth Untold’s Summer NAMM performance was attended by US Mapex Rep, Bob Terry (of Wang Chung fame), who gifted Randall a double falcon pedal for the gig, but more importantly got the ball rolling when it came to developing an artist relationship.

Dave Lawrence, Canadian Mapex rep continued the discussion and officially awarded Randall the “endorsee” title this winter:

“Bringing Tyler Randall onto Mapex Canada’s artist roster is an exciting addition to our drum family. Not only does he bring great talent and a hot new act into the fold, but his character and drive are the stuff that Mapex Canada is proud to support in seeing him strive to new heights.”

It’s easy to see why Mapex got on board: this past summer also saw The Truth Untold being named among the Top #10 indie talents across their nation (Starbeat), not to mention securing the opening slot for 90s rock hitmakers, SmashMouth, at Pittsburgh’s Three Rivers Regatta, an event which boasts 1.5 million spectators over its three day run.

As a longtime user of the Mapex Saturn series, Randall is honoured to officially represent the company and was happy to elaborate on why Mapex is his brand of choice:

“As a drummer, I’m very particular about my sound. I’ve tried out a variety of kits by the major brands, but nothing compares to the resonance of the maple walnut-hybrid shells of the Saturn. The highs cut through while the lows pack a punch.”
