Further ‘Neu’ Additions From Ludwig

0

In addition to the Raw Brass snare drum announced last week, Ludwig Drums is set for a busy 2018, with new kits, new hardware and a new (old) finish back from the 1960s being launched at the upcoming NAMM show. Fresh on the stand will be Ludwig’s NeuSonic kits.

The kits feature six ply maple/cherry hybrid shells with pre-set bass drum spurs, and come in four wrap finishes. Also new is Ludwig’s Evolution hardware, which comprises a hi hat stand, snare drum stand, bass drum pedal and twin boom stands.

Finally, commemorating John Densmore of The Doors and celebrating the 50th year of Mod Orange, The Doors, and the “Swinging’ Scene”, Ludwig is reissuing Mod Orange for all USA series drums: Legacy, Classic Maple, Keystone X and Club Date. Like all other Vintage Oyster finish offerings from Ludwig, these are authentically produced by a hand blending process of materials to re-create the look.

Ludwig unveils Raw Brass shell snare drum

0

Following the success of the Raw Copperphonic, Ludwig’s UK distributor Active Music has announced that the US manufacturer’s latest addition to the World Renowned series is the Raw Brass.

At the core of the Raw Brass snare is a 1.2mm seamless machine drawn brass shell which is the foundation of the Black Beauty. The shell is subjected to an oxidation process making each snare drum unique. Because the raw shell is smooth to the touch and carries no coating it will oxidise slightly further: ‘Creating a truly stunning shell that is like no other,’ Active says.

The drum is now available in the UK in sizes 14”x5”, 14”x6.5” and 14”x8” but only in limited numbers due to the complexity of the manufacturing process.

Brand New Metal From Meinl…

0

Meinl is known for having the absolute widest selction of cymbal sounds and effects. Here we have a selection of cymbals adds to that ever–expanding tradition, and is just a few of the new models fresh for 2018…

Byzance Jazz and Traditional series add-ons:

The new Byzance Monophonic and Polyphonic Rides have similar names, but are two totally different instruments. First, the Monophonic Ride is constructed by taking elements such as hammering, lathing, and a unique shape from other Byzance cymbals and blending them to create a new and unique voice. Within the Byzance Jazz series. Next, the Polyphonic Ride is like having three cymbals in one. We took the three main elements of a cymbal: crashing, riding and the bell, and created a cymbal that retains each element individually as if it is three separate cymbals from the Traditional series. The Monophonic Ride could be that one jazz ride you have been searching for, but, if you can only take one cymbal to your next rock/pop/ funk gig, the Polyphonic will be everything you need.

Artist Concept Models:

The Artist Concept Models are a collection of cymbals voices. They are the product of Meinl Cymbals Artists and the Meinl R&D team to craft unique and innovative sounds that allown the artist to explore, create and forge ahead as leaders in acoustic music and in the art of drumming. Each one adds a musical note to the set-up emphasizing the artist’ individuality and playing style.

Pure Alloy add-ons: 10” Splash, 18” China and 22” Medium Crash:

The new Meinl Pure Alloy additions build on the popularity and success of the classic Pure Alloy tone and balance. The big 22” medium crash is the perfect punctuation at the end of a big arena rock fill and is great for crash-riding. The splash is then, crisp and will sizzle in the studio while the china ideally offsets the trashy lows, punchy attack, and medium sustain sought after in a rock china.

Tama gets 2018 to a flying start with major launches

0

Tama sees in 2018 with two major product launches. The first sees the introduction of the Superstar Classic Maple to the U.K.  Drawing inspiration from Superstar models of old, its classic Tama T-shape badge and streamlined low-mass single lugs point to the simpler state of art of the ’70s, says UK distributor Headstock: ‘…while the ingenious Star-Mount system and new thinner gauge 100% maple shells eclipse anything in its class’.

Headstock goes on to say that Star-Mount System increases the resonance of drums, and provides support at four points on the batter side hoop of a drum. The bracket eye-bolts slide to the left and right, so it’s possible to prevent the eye-bolts from touching each other. even when setting up two toms close to each other.

The Superstar Classic Maple kit features:

100% Maple Shells – Tom Tom, Floor Tom & Snare Drum : 6ply, 5mm
Bass Drum : 8ply, 7mm

Available in three finishes – Blue Lacquer Burst, Coffee Fade, and Tangerine Lacquer Burst.

Both 22” and 20” Bass drum configurations available.

Tama’s second major New Year announcement is the launch of a brand new range of SLP Drum Kits

The new S.L.P. drum kits are based on the concept the S.L.P. snare drum series, which have become very popular worldwide for their wide range of features and sound characteristics. Like the snares, Headstock says, each kit model has its own original sound and distinct features such as hoops, lugs and tom brackets, that were carefully selected to achieve the full potential of its shell material. ‘Tama chose particular sizes and configurations for each kit to emphasize its individual character. Each kit really shines in particular musical styles and can help to enhance the quality of a band’s sound’.

The three kits and sound description comprise:

STUDIO MAPLE

Extra warm with rich tone and focused attack

All Maple Shell w/Sound Focus Ring

100% maple wood hoops, coated with urethane for more durability

DYNAMIC KAPUR

Open lively sound with great projection
