Born in Mexico City, 4 time Grammy Award winner Antonio Sánchez began playing the drums at age five and performed professionally in his early teens in Mexico’s rock, jazz and latin scenes.
He pursued a degree in classical piano at the Superior School of Music in Mexico City and in 1993 made his move to Boston where he enrolled in Berklee College of Music and later signed up for a master’s diploma from New England Conservatory.
Since his move to New York City in 1999, Antonio became one of the most sought-after drummers in the international jazz scene. Following 22 years and 9 albums as one of the most revered collaborators of guitarist/composer Pat Metheny, he also has recorded/performed with many other most prominent artists like Chick Corea, Gary Burton, Michael Brecker, Charlie Haden, Toots Thielemans, Béla Fleck, Mike Stern, Joshua Redman, John Patitucci and many others.
In 2014 Sánchez’s popularity soared when he scored Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) which ended up fetching 4 Academy awards (including best picture) and for which Antonio won a Grammy award. Sánchez currently has close to a dozen recordings as a leader, co-leader, solo artist and film composer. His critically acclaimed solo debut album Migration featured Chick Corea and Pat Metheny. Other ground-breaking and well received projects feature his band Migration which recored the through-composed epic The Meridian Suite andLines in the Sand where Sánchez turns his political anger into a moving musical statement of epic compositional proportions as much a protest against injustice in our current political climate and as a tribute to every immigrant’s journey.
Other solo albums comprise the star studded album Three Times Three (featuring Brad Mehldau, John Scofield, Joe Lovano, John Patitucci, Christian McBride and Matt Brewer), Grammy nominated Bad Hombre —a sociopolitical electronica & drums exploration, Channels of Energy, an ambitious project with the WDR Big Band with arrangements of his works by Vince Mendoza.
His genre-bending 9th solo album SHIFT – Bad Hombre Vol. II on Warner features a star studded cast that includes Trent Reznor, Dave Mathews, Pat Metheny, Meshell Ndegeocello, Lila Downs, Ana Tijoux, Silvana Estrada, Kimbra, Becca Stevens, Maro, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Thana Alexa and SONICA as well as Antonio’s acting legend grandfather Ignacio Lopez Tarso. He’s been touring this project for over 3 years with his sonically adventurous band Bad Hombre.
Some of his co-leader credits include Elipsis with Michael League and Pedrito Martinez, BEAT with Béla Fleck and Edmar Castaneda and Trio Grande with Will Vinson and Gilad Hekselman.
Antonio’s film composer skills are on display on the official soundtrack albums for Birdman, Get Shorty and The Studio.

Flint Percussion Says…“Flint® Percussion is an eco-friendly family business based in the North-West of England, established in 2005. Our company began as a result of our young daughter wishing to play the marching drum in a local pipe band, but at only 10 years of age it was immediately apparent that the standard marching drum would be too heavy for her to carry and play. Coming from an engineering background, we began to look for ways to redesign these drums to reduce weight without impacting sound and material quality.
After several years of research and development, we invented the Suspended ShellTM system, where only the drum skins are in contact with the shell and tension is achieved on both skins through the shell itself via a surrounding cage. This resulted in the lightest high-tension marching snare drum ever made. We then went on to produce other drums using the same Suspended ShellTM system, offering a full range of ultra-lightweight marching drums.
Today, we supply these lightweight drums to clients around the world, including countries in North America, Oceania, Europe and the Middle East. We are experts in instrument manufacture and delivery, and apply this experience to ensure all musical instruments we produce are of the highest quality upon arrival with our clients.“

A Note From Paul…
“The microphones were set up with the overheads and room mic’s measured to the centre of the snare drum to keep the phase of any stereo pair in phase. The AEA R88 MK2 mic’s being stereo mic’s had no issue with phase but the front centre room mic and centre overhead where aligned with each other to keep the same stereo image. The phase reverse switch on the front kick mic was used to correct the phase between the two bass drum mic’s. The phase reverse switch was engaged on the bottom snare mic to correct the phase between the two snare mic’s. Hi pass filters only used on the hi hat mic, Ride mic and overheads. The live room of the studio has been treated to provide a neutral sound close to the drums & cymbals with the room mic’s then giving a true representation of what the instruments sound like in the room. Using 16 identical Mic Pre amps also helps with electrical phase so there is no difference between tone and phase of the Mic Pre amps. The brief for the recoding was to give as true a representation as possible of what the instruments actually sound like.”

Gregg Bissonette has become known as one of the most versatile drummers in the business, his broad experience ranging from big band, blues, and rock, to Latin, fusion, and much more.
The Detroit native comes from a family of talented musicians. Gregg started playing on his dad’s drum kit from about the age of 5! After high school, Gregg became the drummer for the famed NTSU One O’Clock Big Band. In 1982, Gregg made the move to Los Angeles. Gregg’s big break came in the summer of 1985, when David Lee Roth left Van Halen and started his own band. Gregg landed the gig playing drums, with Steve Vai on guitar, Billy Sheehan on bass, and Brett Tuggle on keys.
Today, Gregg continues to record with and for many other artists including Ringo, films, and TV shows. Gregg’s incredible sense of humor comes across clearly whether he’s recording or teaching at a drum clinic. His perfect balance between professionalism, strong work ethic, and congeniality make him a wonderful colleague and session artist, and a much-respected name in the music industry.
Backstage at the iconic London Palladium, just hours before her penultimate show with Anastacia, Vicky O’Neon sat down with Ollie Winiberg to talk all things drums, tours and neon energy! From being an educator to lighting up global stages – Vicky is one of the most vibrant voices in modern drumming!
There’s a certain buzz you get the moment you walk into a venue like the Palladium on a show day. You feel the history, the weight of the performances that have come before, and the hum of something big about to happen. And despite the pressure of being just hours away from stage time, Vicky was calm, focused, and completely in control — but still full of warmth and happy to give me a proper behind-the-scenes look at life on the road.
We spoke about what goes into preparing for a tour like this. It’s not just about turning up and playing parts — it’s about completely immersing yourself in the music. Vicky’s approach is all about serving the songs — learning them in a way that goes beyond memory, understanding the intention behind the arrangements, the dynamics of the set, and how to lock in with a live band to enhance the performance without ever stealing the spotlight. Her level of respect for the gig, and for Anastacia’s legacy, really stood out.
As if that wasn’t enough, she also works on the US television show Name That Tune, where she’s expected to learn — wait for it — up to 1,000 songs per season. That’s not a typo. A thousand. It’s a pace and level of adaptability that most musicians can barely wrap their heads around, but Vicky takes it in her stride with grace and professionalism. You get the sense she genuinely thrives on challenge.
Before the Palladium audience took their seats, Vicky took me on an exclusive tour of her live rig — right there on stage under the lights. From congas and cymbals to pads, triggers and various percussive toys, the setup is as versatile as she is. It’s not just there to look impressive (though it does); it’s there to give her the freedom to respond to the music in real time, to switch between acoustic and electronic textures seamlessly, and to deliver a performance that’s both powerful and musical.
Being invited into that space — just before such a high-stakes show — was a genuine honour. Vicky’s the real deal. Passionate, dedicated, and incredibly down to earth. She’s one of those rare musicians who brings both technical mastery and complete musicality to the stage.
If you ever get the chance to see her live, do it. Whether she’s performing with Anastacia or tearing it up in her own projects, Vicky O’Neon is an absolute force — and I couldn’t be more grateful for the time she gave me on such an important night.
Vicky will be appearing in the Mike Dolbear Masterclass room at The UK Drum Show on Saturday 18 October 2025…don’t miss your chance to witness Vicky’s incredible neon energy in-person…grab your tickets now: www.theukdrumshow.com

Roland announces the official release of the DrumLink wireless system and related products. Developed in partnership between Roland and Drum Workshop (DW), DrumLink is a new wireless triggering technology for electronic pads, cymbals, and drum triggers. From Roland V-Drums kits to hybrid acoustic-electronic configurations, the modular DrumLink system streamlines connectivity for faster setup and a cleaner look.
Designed specifically for drumming applications, the proprietary DrumLink system delivers lightning-fast response and rock-solid performance that feels identical to analog triggering. Up to 30 active instruments are supported simultaneously (depending on the sound source), unlocking a growing range of hybrid, electronic, and software-based drumming setups.
The DrumLink system features two core components: the WT-10 Wireless Trigger Adapter and DH-10 DrumLink Hub. Supported sound sources include the Roland V71, TD-50X, and TD-27 sound modules, SPD-SX PRO Sampling Pad, and the DW Soundworks software instrument. The WT-10 also makes it easy for owners of Drum Workshop’s DWe acoustic-electronic wireless convertible drums to integrate Roland pads within their sets.
WT-10 Wireless Trigger Adapter
The WT-10 converts the analog trigger outputs on compatible Roland drum/cymbal pads and acoustic drum triggers to wireless signals. Two inputs support single- and dual-trigger pads, allowing users to connect two pads to one unit. A single cymbal with two outputs can be connected for bow/bell/edge triggering, and hi-hat pads with two trigger/control outputs are also supported. The integrated mount is highly adjustable, enabling secure and flexible attachment to drum/pad rims, bass drum hoops, and cymbal/hi-hat stands.
DH-10 DrumLink Hub
The compact DH-10 DrumLink Hub captures trigger signals from up to 15 WT-10 units, which are sent to the sound module or a computer via a simple USB-C connection. The DH-10 also has a TRS MIDI output for sending trigger signals to any sound source that receives MIDI note messages and CC data.
Roland V-Cymbals for DWe Convertible Drum Sets
The Roland 4CY-4WT-01 DrumLink Cymbal Pack provides a ready-made solution for outfitting a DWe acoustic-electronic wireless convertible drum set with Roland’s leading electronic cymbals. These expressive pads deliver authentic feel, response, and movement, and have very low in-room noise levels when played. This bundle includes three CY-16R-T crash/ride pads, one VH-10 V-Hi-Hat pad, and four WT-10 Wireless Trigger Adapters that communicate with the kit’s DWe DrumLink Wireless Hub. Drum Workshop also offers complete four- and five-piece DWe kit bundles with Roland V-Cymbals and WT-10 units included.
