DS Drum Launch New Seamless Metal Snare Series

DS Drum are delighted to announce the highly anticipated launch of their Seamless Metal Snare Drums Series.

Seamless shelled snare drums have been the most recorded snare drums for many decades, and these new DS snares will be joining that exclusive club with their amazing tonality and top build quality at surprisingly affordable prices.

Their unique manufacturing process improves the raw material metallurgy by realigning thegrain structure and work-hardening the metal. This results in a shell with structural integrity and strength that is superior to any welded shell: full of tone, projection and resonance!

After years of research, a C-Shape™ cross section was finalised to give these drums a unique sound. The slightly conical shell has different bearing edges top and bottom as part of the advanced design.

The drums are satin finished inside and out and are not plated, but finished with a light coat of lacquer to keep their good looks for many years. They are fitted with the DS Drum 2.3mm inward hoops, Italian lugs and strainers and custom high carbon steel snares.

“Drummers to Watch” Panel at the Hit Like A Girl Lounge at The UK Drum Show 2023

Three of the UK’s top young drummers, Nandi Bushell, Geneva London and Lola Teague, will take part in a special panel discussion in the Hit Like A Girl Lounge at the UK Drum Show on Saturday, September 30 at 3:00 PM. Hosted by global drum ambassador Dom Famularo and co-sponsored by “Drummers To Watch”, the conversation will include how the up-and-coming players are making an impact on drumming and the world— from encouraging more boys and girls to play drums to advocating for human rights, sustainability, gender equality and other important social causes.

Dom Famularo

Dom Famularo has been traveling the globe preaching the gospel of drumming for over 40 years and, today, he remains one of the world’s most respected drum artists, educators, authors and motivational speakers. Dom has presented master classes and clinics around the globe, directed and emceed major drumming expos around the world, and has been one of drumming’s most sought-after private instructors— teaching over 1,000 students from more than 20 countries at his WizDOM Drumshed studio in NY.

Nandi Bushell

At just 13-years old Nandi Bushell has already performed on some of the biggest stages in music, from Wembley Stadium and The O2 Arena in London to The Forum in Los Angeles. Nandi has been fortunate to have had some of the best mentors in the business, jamming with the likes of Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters and Nirvana), Lenny Kravitz, Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), Matt Helders (Arctic Monkeys), Roger Taylor (Queen), Anderson Paak and Nile Rogers. Along with drumming, Nandi also plays sax, guitar, bass and keyboards, composes, produces videos and has appeared on commercials, cartoons and TV shows.

Geneva London

Called “Amazing” by Sheila E. and “Incredible” by Sia, Geneva London is a 13-year old drummer who uses her musical journey to bring attention to a variety of social causes and show what is possible when you play your way. Geneva has appeared in commercials for international brands such as Gatorade, Ikea and others and captured the attention of celebrities, world class musicians and the national press while attracting an international following and inspiring her peers.

Lola Teague

In the 3 short years since she first entered the Hit Like A Girl contest, 14-year old Lola Teague has grown into a powerful, proactive representative of the female drumming movement. In addition to being a drummer to watch, Lola recently received a “Pride Of Reading” award for her social activism in support of Ukrainian war refugees. She is currently the leader of HLAG’s Jr. Ambassador program— coordinating the development and promotional activities of an exceptional group of young drummers from around the world.

Latin Percussion Expands Mona Tavakoli Signature MT Box Cajon Range

Latin Percussion (LP) is delighted to launch the LP® Mona Tavakoli Signature Lil’ MT Box Cajon (LP1443L) and announce an upgrade to the LP® Mona Tavakoli Signature MT Box Cajon (LP14431), first launched in 2018.

The improved LP® Mona Tavakoli Signature MT Box Cajon (LP14431) is now made from hand-crafted nine-ply Birch wood with a four-string factory tuned front and Peruvian-style back birch sound boards to give a more aesthetically appealing look and enhanced tone. The sizing remains the same at 18” x 11 ¾“ x 12”, and features LP’s Rapid Response Curve sound boards that enhance the separation of the bass and slap tones and Mona’s proprietary graduated three sound hole design.

The new LP® Mona Tavakoli Signature Lil’ MT Box Cajon (LP1443L) is based on the larger LP14431 and is a key element of Mona’s continuous passion to get more people playing drums and percussion! Its reduced dimensions of 11 ½ ” x 7 5/8” x 10” make it ideal for the smaller player. It is crafted from environmentally friendly eco-board with a Birch soundboard and fitted with a snare wire. Each of the non-playing surfaces of the cajon are brightly painted in red, blue, green, and yellow, which make it stand out in a crowd. Both models are decorated with Mona Tavakoli’s MT logo.

Drummer, percussionist, singer, and performer Mona Tavakoli is best known for recording and touring with Jason Mraz for over a decade. She co-founded the Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls in Los Angeles and is also a founding member of the all-female rock band, Raining Jane.

Carlos Hercules and Robert ‘Skins’ Anderson will appear at The UK Drum Show on the 30th September in the Mike Dolbear Room Hall 3.

This duo will take guests on a musical journey with a collaboration from these two exceptional and experienced players, having played with some of the world’s greatest artists, along with taking questions from visitors at this years show.

Carlos Hercules has played with a variety and diverse list of artists over his 20+ year career, being Beverley Knights choice of drummer for over a decade. His musical skills have led him to play with C J lewis, Brenda Russell, Emma Bunton, Mel B, The Lighthouse family, Belinda Carlisle, The Eurythmics, Liberty X, Lulu, Jocelyn Brown, Jimmy Cliff, Lemar, Kelly Clarkson, The Waterboys, Avery sunshine, Beverley Knight, Anastasia, Leona Lewis, Bond, Laura Pausini, Marti Pellow and George Michael.

These have included support tours with Bryan Adams, Jamiroquai, Cher, and performances at the UK hall of fame, American music awards, along with being the first drummer to play new Wembley with George Michael.

Robert skins Anderson is percussionist from the UK, he has played with some of the biggest artists in the UK and US. Currently he is the featured percussionist on Alexander O’Neals tour.

He has also been on countless tv shows and tours with Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, Phillip Bailey of Earth Wind and Fire, Jimmy Cliff, Emeli Sande, Brian May, Sister Sledge, Roy Ayers, Westlife, Sly and Robbie and many more. He is the featured percussionist on the Emeli Sande live at the royal albert hall DVD and Alexander O’Neal live at the Hammersmith Odeon DVD’s.

Latin Percussion Launches New Range of Frame Drums

Latin Percussion (LP) continue to develop their collection of world percussion instruments with the introduction of a new range of Frame Drums to include the Tar and Bendir.

Based on some of the most ancient musical instruments the new Tar and Bendir frame drums have been designed and crafted to honor the traditional instruments of North Africa and the Middle East. They are played in a vertical stance on the lap using mainly one hand for accented beats and the other to hold the position and add finger rolls.

Percussionist Randy Gloss, winner of Drum! magazine readers poll Award for Best Percussion Ensemble, has assisted LP in the design of the new Frame Drums.

LP’s Tar frame drum is available in two depths, 2-½” and 4”, while the Bendir frame drum is available in 4” depth only. The 2-½” Tar is constructed using an 11-ply Poplar shell while the 4” Tar and Bendir are built from a 6-ply Poplar shell with a 12-ply tuning ring. The Bendir version has adjustable strings attached to the frame to act as a snare and create a buzzing sound when the drum is struck.

All the frame drums are tunable, offered in diameters of 14”, 16”, 18”, and 20” and finished in Black Fade. Each features comfy, rounded thumb slots with through-shell tuning systems for easy playing and long-term durability. The synthetic head provides long-lasting pitch and an Easy-Clip enables a tuning key to be safely stored on the drum without interrupting playing. Each drum includes a tuning key and carry bag.

Scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 1 at 3:00 PM in the Hit Like A Girl Lounge at the UK Drum Show— and hosted by the UK’s legendary drum journalist Louise King— the “Women In The Workforce” panel discussion will feature 3 of England’s busiest professional drummer/percussionists. The talented trio includes Cherisse Osei (Simple Minds), Alice Angliss (Six The Musical UK) and Migdalia Van Der Hoven (Six The Musical UK Tour and independent jazz artist).

Cherisse Osei

Cherisse Osei’s visual flamboyance and rock-solid drumming make her one of the most sought-after drummers in the world. Working with innovative, upcoming artists and industry legends including Kelly Jones, Paloma Faith, Bryan Ferry and Mika, she’s been playing to sell-out arenas and global audiences for nearly 2 decades and currently tours and records with Simple Minds.

From Coachella and Glastonbury to the Isle of Wight and South by Southwest, Cherisse has played the world’s biggest music festivals. She has also been featured on major TV shows and, in 2018, won first place in the best Live Session Drummer category in Rhythm Magazine’s and Music Radar’s polls.

Alice Angliss

Alice Angliss studied music at St. Catherine’s College in Oxford before receiving her Masters Degree in Orchestral Percussion and Timpani from the Royal College of Music. She freelances in concert halls, theatres and recording studios throughout the UK and can currently be found playing drums and keys/MD on “Six The Musical” in the West End.

Her recent work has included TV and radio performances with: “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical” and The BBC Singers as well as the UK and European tours of “’Love Actually in Concert”, “Miss Saigon” and “Bat Out Of Hell”. Alice also teaches percussion, drums and piano from her home studio.

Migdalia Van Der Hoven

Originally from Mexico, Migdalia van der Hoven is an award-winning drummer based in the UK. She is a Berklee College of Music graduate known for her groove, sensitivity and versatility across multiple genres, including funk, jazz, latin, pop and Christian music.

In addition to her main gig as the drummer for the UK touring company of Six The Musical, Migdalia can often be found performing with her quartet and big band in the major jazz clubs in and around England and Europe.

Her band’s latest album, “Point Of Departure”, was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and she is currently the UK Ambassador for Hit Like A Girl.

Ludwig Announce Experience Room Masterclass Sessions at The UK Drum Show 2023

Ludwig Drums have announced their session timings and special guests for The UK Drum Show 2023.

Ludwig, who are just one of a hundred or so brands to exhibit at what is being hailed as Europe’s largest consumer drum show, have expanded their exhibition booth for 2023, along with increasing visitor engagement with hosting their own Experience Room this September at the ACC Liverpool.

Guests visiting the show will be able to check out Ludwig artists Art Cruz, Graham Hopkins, along with Afrobeat and Ezra Collective Femi Koleoso.

Hailing from California, U.S. Art Cruz plays drums with metal heavyweights Lamb of God. Originally a fan of the band before rising to prominence as one of the genre’s top touring musicians, Art officially joined Lamb of God in 2019, following a stint of filling in during the band’s 2018 run of live shows with a whirlwind introduction.

Cruz commands his position with passion, sweat and expansive dynamics, supporting the band’s most recent release ‘Omens’, his second album with Lamb of God following their self -titled album in 2020.

Amongst a vast catalogue of sessions work, Art has also played with the likes of Winds of Plague, Prong and Klogr.

Femi Koleoso: Femi Koleoso is chief beatmaker in Afrobeat and hip-hop infused jazz five-piece Ezra Collective. He was a close friend and mentee of Afrobeat drumming hero Tony Allen – travelling to Paris during his formative years for one-on-one lessons and hangs with Uncle Tony.

The award-winning quintet Ezra Collective first emerged out of the Tomorrow’s Warriors initiative in 2012, quickly gaining traction for their tireless experimentation and live performance wizardry, having now toured the world playing sold out shows from New York to Paris via their hometown of London.

Femi also drums for Gorillaz and Damon Albarn, and previously Jorja Smith. Having personally benefitted and prospered thanks to the “each one teach one” inclusive approach to music, Femi strives to continue this ethos in his own work, hosting free inclusive masterclasses, otherwise known as “Good Vibes Day”s in his downtime from touring.

Graham Hopkins: Known as one of the most influential Irish drummers of his generation, Graham Hopkins was raised to the sounds of Dixieland jazz and has been playing drums since his early childhood…. His father being a professional jazz drummer.

Graham plays alongside artists such as Glen Hansard, the Oscar-winning Swell Season & The Frames. Other artists that Graham has toured and recorded with include Snow Patrol, Therapy?, Rosanne Cash, Dolores O’Riordan, Tom Jones and many more.
