Adoro Introduce Silent Sticks

0

Acoustic drums and cymbals can be too loud in settings including low-volume bands and volume-sensitive venues, music classes, drum lessons, praise bands in churches, practicing at home, even warming up on stage. So, Adoro have introduced Silent Sticks, an inexpensive means with which to cut acoustic drum and cymbal volume +/-50%, even when playing at normal velocity.

Says Adoro CEO Stefan Korth: “Something is wrong when a drummer must play behind a plexiglass shield or hold back and play more lightly because others think the drums are too loud.

According to Korth, Silent Sticks have three key design features that let drummers comfortably turn down their volume without turning down their playing. Dual-Twist Reflex Tips consisting of two twisted strands of firm, yet flexible monofilament nylon rounded tightly like small hoops are permanently embedded with epoxy into the stick shafts. Instead of bouncing like the bead of a typical stick, these tips rebound by flexing, making it possible to practice quietly or play gigs at lower volumes without adjusting the velocity of the playing. Second, the air-filled shafts (16”/406mm long; 0.47”/12mm dia.) are of lightweight but shock resistant polycarbonate that absorbs the impact of the hardest strokes. They will not wear out or warp. And for a relaxed no-slip grip of the sticks and great finger control there are textured rubber X-Grips.

“Silent Sticks,” notes Korth, “eliminate the need for a plexiglass cage or any other volume reducing gear. I have a pair in my bag alongside brushes, mallets and other options. If I must turn down my volume, I grab the Silent Sticks. Even on gigs where volume isn’t a concern, if there is a quiet song, I also put my wood sticks down and play with Silent Sticks. They give me definition and tone that I cannot get with bundles or rods. And with them I’m never too loud.”

According to Korth, Adoro also offer a volume-reducing bass drum beater and even low-volume drums, news of which will be forthcoming.

About Adoro:

In addition to Silent Sticks Adoro, whose HQ is located in Hamburg, Germany, designs and produces award-winning Adoro Custom Drums, Adoro Lotus drum hardware and Adoro drumheads.

Scott Pellegrom Virtually Back In The UK

0

After the disappointment of having to postpone Scott back in March for the UK and Ireland tour, he is live, in person via Facebook, Saturday 15th August 8:30pm.

Look forward to an entertaining evening with the Palace Drum Clinic crew in conversation with Scott Pellogrom!

Scott Pellegrom has been with Dream Cymbals for the last 12 years, and has helped produce a range of recycled cymbals as well as being one of the most creative and entertaining  drum clinicians to have emerged this century. Based out of Grand Rapids Michigan, Scott runs a successful studio, his own “instore clinic” show  and is in demand as a live performer, recording artist  and improviser. This year was to have been his 4th successful tour of the UK, and his creativity and musicality is much followed by the drumming community.

DW Unveil New Snare Drum Formula

0

Drum Workshop Inc. (DW) have announced they are launching a new custom Collector’s Series piccolo snare drum with a new size inspired by Pi, a mathematical constant known throughout the scientific and mathematical world. The new Pi Snare Drum is available in any California Custom Shop diameter by a depth of 3.14”. Also offered is a 14” diameter option constructed from Space Carbon, a high-grade material that is upcycled from private sector space program manufacturing.

The drum features a newly-designed 2-piece mini turret lug that houses independent lug receivers, as well as, the compact Mini MAG Throw-Off (DWSM2157M). The Mini MAG is ideal for snare drums less than 4.5” deep and available separately to easily retro fit on any custom shop snare drum. It features a neat magnetic drop-style mechanism which keeps the snare wires engaged at all times and can be fine-tuned precisely via the knurled drum key tension adjustment.

DW Pi Mini Mag Throw Off

In addition, the Universal Mini Mag Throw-Off (DWSM2157UM) can be retrofitted to virtually any snare from 4.5” – 8” in depth. Other pro-level features on the new Pi snare include DW 3.0 steel True-Hoops, 3P (3 position) Butt Plate, True-Pitch 50 tuning, True-Tone 20-stand snare wires and DW Drum Heads by Remo.

Resident DW Drum Designer, John Good, commented, “We’ve been wanting to engineer some new hardware that would allow us to accommodate shallower depths. Rich Sikra and his design team did an outstanding job on the new lug and Mini MAG.  We even designed a new mini Collector’s badge to fit these drums. So many of our top artists are interested in new and unique sounds these days; this new Pi drum has its own sonic character”.

The surprisingly loud Pi snare possesses a wider than expected tuning range giving substantial body to its sound for such a shallow drum. Quick and snappy with dry, crisp, clean fundamental tones it offers an alternate snare voice for the modern drummers and is perfect for an auxiliary snare drum.

Good continued, “This drum is sensitive and has its own tonal character depending on the shell material chosen, but it’s also a shotgun! I mean this thing is loud!

Yamaha FP9 Pedals – Drummer’s Review

  • Single & double models with either chain, strap or direct drive (with left handed version of double chain/strap drive also available),
  • Easy access spring tension adjuster,
  • Independant beater/footboard angle adjustment,
  • Weighted beater with choice of weights,
  • Anti slip heel spikes and rubber underside for non-slip positioning,

If you had the chance to participate NAMM 2020 in January or did check some of GEWA’s Youtube Clips, you’ve already had the ability to experience Eric Moore and the GEWA G9 concept study.
Eric was touring in Europe in 2019 and had the chance to visit the “GEWA Drums Development Hub“ at the GEWA music HQ in Adorf, Germany. He got an exclusive look behind the curtain and checked the G9 concept on an early stage. Eric was more than impressed of the great team spirit and immediately wanted to become a part of the young GEWA G9 team. He helped during the last 8-9 month to further improve the G9, especially the hi-hat. In collaboration with renown artists like Eric Moore, Ben Barter, Felix Lehrmann and Bene Neuner, GEWA introduced the final version of the GEWA G9 in May 2020 to the European retailers.
Eric had the chance to test the official product back in May 2020 and has now decided to take the next step and start a long term collaboration with Gewa
“It is great to welcome such an outstanding musician and drummer as one of the first GEWA G9 brand ambassadors. Eric is a great guy who was pushing our R&D team to the limit and beyond! The relationship we have is very special and we all will be able to experience some outstanding and great things happening in the next couple of years! Everything we do we do for the e-drum community out there, Eric will definitely help to further push our projects and put it on another level!“
Hans-Peter Messner (CEO/President GEWA music)
“The Gewa G9 series is fresh, innovative and the future when it comes to Electric Drums. The touchscreen features and unlimited sounds that can be loaded via Wifi are remarkable, not to mention the playability and its stunning look. I have truly found a company I’m proud to stand aside and I am grateful and happy to be a part of the Gewa Family.” Eric Moore – Brand ambassador GEWA G9.
