Avedis Zildjian Company announce I Family of cymbals and update to the Planet Z line

0

The Avedis Zildjian Company is pleased to announce the release of reimagined cymbal options with the launch of the new I Family of cymbals and an update to the Planet Z line.  The new I Family of cymbals replaces the ZBT series.  Planet Z has been refreshed with a new alloy and new look, and continues to offer the same controlled and focused sound.

14 I Trash Top – Trash Crash

Taking its name from “Ilham”, the Turkish word for inspiration, the I Family is a collection of expressive sounds designed for the drummer who is looking to graduate from the fundamental sizes and sounds and bring their playing to the next level.  The series features modern weights and profiles, and fresh effects sounds.  “Cymbal trends are always changing, and as popular as ZBT has been since its debut in 1998, we realized that it wasn’t delivering everything today’s drummers were asking for”, says Andy Tamulynas, Global Category Manager, Zildjian Cymbals. “With the development of the I Family, we really started from the ground up and challenged what a B8 cymbal could be. The I Family is going to be a game changer. The thinner weights, modern profiles and unique special effect options are really going to allow intermediate drummers to carve out their own voice in a way that just wasn’t possible before.”    The I Family launches with a 10” splash, 14”, 16”, 17”, 18”, 19” crashes, 18” and 20” crash rides, 20” and 22” rides, 13” and 14” hihats, 14” mastersound hihats, a 14” trash crash / hihat top, a 17” trash crash, and 16” and 18” chinas.  The I Family is also offered as a band pair, available in 14” and 16” sizes.  A variety of configurations of cymbals are offered in 6 cymbal packs.

Zildjian Plant Z Cymbal Pack

Planet Z has been refreshed in 2020, updating its alloy, look, and sound to match the needs of drummers today.  Crafted from brass, Planet Z continues to be bright and cutting, with a more controlled and focused sound.  Planet Z also remains versatile, offering the standard sizes and sounds that can tackle any style of music.  This makes Planet Z ideal for drummers looking to start their musical journey, as well as those drummers looking for a bright cymbal sounds that cuts through a mix. “Brass is an ideal material for entry level cymbals because of its controlled sustain. The reduced wash makes it easy for the drummer to hear exactly what’s being played, so that they can learn more quickly.  And for the non-beginner who is just looking for a good value on a solid set of cymbals, Planet Z delivers all the standard sizes and sounds you need to tackle any kind of music,” says Tamulynas.   Planet Z has been trimmed to offer the essentials – available in a 10” splash, 16” crash, 18” crash ride, 20” ride, 13” and 14” hihats, and an 18” china.  A variety of configurations are offered in 3 cymbal packs, making it easy to create a full set-up.

Planet Z and the I Family of cymbals are entry points into the Zildjian family of cymbals.  As drummers seek their sound, they’re able to evolve, expand, and explore further within Zildjian – adding versatility with the S Family of cymbals, complementing sounds with the addition of the FX line, and exploring further into the complex sounds of the A and K Families of cymbals.

Footes Celebrates 100th Anniversary

0

Established in 1920 at 232 Hornsey Road London and founded by Charles Ernest Foote, Footes supplied and manufactured drums and percussion (alongside woodwind and brass) instruments.  In 1924, Ronald E Foote joined and began to market the ‘REF’ series of snare drums which included innovative features such as a parallel snare and internal damper.

During the Second World War, both Charles and Ronald left to fight for their country and the shop was left in the safe hands of Fred Della Porta, then Sales Director of Premier Drums.  Following the bombing of the Hornsey Road premises, the shop was moved in 1946 to 40 Rupert Street, Soho in Central London, close to Premier’s office and showroom at 8 Golden Square.  So began a long association between Foote’s and Premier Drums.

In 1956, Footes moved to Denman Street and was officially appointed a Premier agent.  Many other dealerships followed as drums from the USA became more available in the 1960’s.

Sid Grant joined the company at this time as the manager and remained until retiring in 1982, when his position was taken over by Eddie Chase.  In 1961, Ronald Foote left the company and in the same year, in store drum tuition was introduced with Frank King.

In 1969, Footes moved to 17 Golden Square and became established as the Premier drum showroom.  Following the sudden passing of Frank King, the drum tuition seat was taken over by John Tayler who remained in situ until his retirement in 2012.  1991 saw another move to 10 Golden Square, just a few doors along from the original Premier office.

In 2012, the business passed to long term sales director Rob Wilson with the help of Nick Mason (Pink Floyd/Saucerful of Secrets).  Nick bought his first drum kit at Footes in 1958!

The shop was moved to its current location at 41 Store Street where it continues to serve the worldwide drumming community.  It has one of the most impressive displays of drums and percussion in the country alongside tuition, a practice room and a dedicated cymbal room.

Rob Wilson (Director) comments:

“Everyone at Foote’s would like to take this opportunity to thank all our friends, suppliers, manufacturers and, most importantly, our customers who have helped us achieve this huge milestone.  We’re proud to feel part of the drumming community and we couldn’t have done it without you!  We look forward to many more years of trading and can now claim the title WORLD’S OLDEST DRUM STORE, WHICH WOULD HAVE MADE CHARLES E. FOOTE AS PROUD AS WE ARE”

Look out for more details of our anniversary celebrations on Saturday 11th July.

The 21″ ride is a unique hybrid of the un-lathed Moon Ride centre surrounded by a warm swath of warm rich Energy cymbal providing a dry, articulate centre zone with an outer area that has a darker undertone and a broad, solid wash. The 23″ model features a loud and direct bell, with perfect articulation on the un-lathed centre and a dense wash when the shoulder is dug into. Finally the 15″ hats are bright enough to cut through any musical setting thanks to their clean bark and shimmering slosh, giving a big, full-bodied sound.

Natal Drums Introduce New Pro-Series Hardware Range

0

Natal Drums recently unveiled their new Pro-Series hardware, featuring a range of brand-new for 2020 pedals and stands.

With greater control via an improved footboard and floating spring system, Natal’s new Pro Series bass drum pedals now offers players greater stability courtesy of a new steel base plate and amplified precision and speed. Available as either single or double, the UK designed pedals feature smooth & fast cams, self-levelling hoop clamps, non-slip footplates and a steel driveshaft.

In addition to the Natal’s latest pedal offering, the snare stands feature large rubber feet for better grip and stability along with tapered points of the cradle to reduce contact with the snare, allowing it to resonate more freely. The new snare stand can now also be set lower, with a new leg span and lower bottom tube.

The Pro Series Hi-Hat Stand is designed with player comfort in mind. Featuring a flexible footplate engraved with the Natal logo for extra grip (which can be easily positioned using a drum key adjustment), the double-braced stand also features non-slip rubber feet and full compliment of memory locks.

Finally, a smoother cymbal tilter has been used on the Pro Series boom stand for more precise positioning, allowing greater control, as well as disappearing boom arm for greater set-up options.

All of the stands are lighter in weight than Natal’s previous ranges thanks to reduced tube sizes (except for the snare stand which features reduced-size tubing on the base section only). Prices for the new range (retail) are…

Mapex Introduce A Range Of New Additions For 2020

0

Mapex Drums have announced a host of new products launching throughout 2020 which they previewed at the recent NAMM show in Anaheim. These include an update for their Saturn Series, their brand-new Saturn Evolution Series, new additions to the Black Panther snare drum family and a selection of new artist signature snares for their Black Panther Design Lab snare range.

Saturn Series

Long recognized as a groundbreaking series, Saturn pioneered the exploration of hybrid shell sonic properties. Now, the new Saturn range features a host of innovations taken directly from the companies flagship Black Panther Design Lab series launched in 2018, including placements of each drum’s air vents, SAS (Sonic Attenuation System) 90° floor tom legs, low-density isolation gaskets for floor tom leg brackets and new SAS finishes.

Saturn Evolution Series

The new Mapex Saturn Evolution Series offers a virtually unlimited combination of shells, sizes and cross-over finishes. Available as individual components, or as pre-set shell packs, the chamber specific design ensures all drums blend beautifully with ten new finishes perfectly matched on both the Maple/Walnut and Birch/Walnut Hybrid Shells so that the players choice of shell material can be based on sound alone. The toms feature Mapex’s new Halo mounting system, which is a lateral “under lug-line” suspension system which isolates the toms to allow the shell the freedom to breath, delivering a pure, open tone.

Finishes on the new Saturn Evolution follow the Sonic Attenuation (SAS) System, first conceived for Mapex’s Black Panther Design Lab series, with four colours rated at SAS-0 (Satin), three at SAS-1 (high gloss), and three at SAS-2 (high gloss over an exotic outer ply).

SAS-0 finishes have no effect on the natural tone of the wood shell, whilst the SAS-1 high gloss lacquers deliver a slightly dryer sound, and shells finished with an SAS-2 exotic outer ply produce the driest tones in the range.

Both the new Saturn Series and Saturn Evolution Series are set to be available in Spring 2020.

Black Panther Snare Drums

Elsewhere, Mapex have introduced fourteen new snare drums into the Black Panther snare drum family, with every drum having been redesigned from the ground up with careful attention paid to retaining the character of this much loved series whilst at the same time introducing new shell features, sizes and materials. The new additions include six metal shelled drums (steel (x2), copper, aluminium, brass and hammered brass), five maple shelled models in a variety of sizes and thicknesses and three hybrid wood shelled models (maple/walnut/maple, maple/walnut & birch/walnut).

Black Panther Design Lab Artist Snares

Finally, Mapex have unveiled a collection of five Black Panther Design Lab Artist Series snare drums designed in collaboration with artists Russ Miller, Jeff Hamilton, Craig Blundell and Chris Adler. Every model has been designed to the finest detail, right down to the artists personal choice of snare throw off, snare wires and heads.
