Yamaha Launch New-For-2020 Stage Custom Hip Compact Kit

Yamaha today launched the Stage Custom Hip drum set, a compact version of the Stage Custom Birch, one of the most popular venue backline kits around the world. Ideally suited for an eclectic range of genres, this drum set was developed for a wide variety of drummers, including street performers, pub gig players, educators, hybrid players using DJ/electronic gear and home recording studio musicians. Additionally, this drum set is a great at-home practice solution with low volume setups.

Designed in a one-box configuration, the Stage Custom Hip was developed with 100% Birch 6-ply shells and includes a 20″ x 8″ bass drum, offering a deep tonal low end as well as smaller footprint, a 13″ x 8″ floor tom/snare tom, 13″ x 5″ snare and 10″ x 5″ rack tom. Drummers can explore new sounds with the floor tom snare in this one-of-a-kind drum set configuration.

Other features include steel triple flange hoops and a compact single tom holder for easy transportation. The series offers three beautiful finishes: Natural Wood, Raven Black and the new Matte Surf Green.

Gretsch Drums have introduced two new snare drums into their range for 2020, the USA Custom Black Copper Snare and Grand Prix Aluminium Snare, both available in two different sizes.

Gretsch’s Black Copper snare drums include all the elements of a classic copper shell but with a very unique twist. The new snares have a thin layer of black powder coating applied to their 1mm copper shell which adds just the right amount of control to the overall sonic character of the drum, whilst still retaining the traditional warm, articulate sound.  The finishing touch is a laser engraved round badge logo exposing the copper shell hidden underneath.

Because of its softer composition, copper delivers a combination of dry warmth, punch, and dynamic range, resulting in a player-friendly snare drum that’s well-suited for a variety of musical applications. A Lightning throw off, 42-strand snare wires, 45 degrees bearing edge, die cast hoops and Snap-In key holder round-out the features of this unique snare drum.

Pearl Drums have announced that they’ve expanded their stock colour line-up to include twelve exciting new finishes available across seven different drum series from Export to Reference.

The Reference Pure sees a sophisticated Satin Rose-Gold finish as well as Osiria Rose Stripe, which was inspired by the aforementioned rose gold but featuring bordeaux red combined with contrasting white stripes. One more completely new finish in Pearl’s history is Turquoise Pearl, now available as a Pearl Reference stock colour option for added stage presence. Masters Maple Reserve series gets two new finishes: Red Burst Triband and charming Light Amber. In turn, Pearl Masters Maple Complete stock finishes now include Almond Red Stripe, an elegant and versatile colour choice, as well as Satin Sakura Coral and Chrome Contrail, the idea for which came from the line-shaped clouds that are left behind by aircraft engine exhaust.

The best-selling drum kit of all time, Pearl Export, has received a new classic Matte White colour option, and the Session Studio Select now sees Black Mirror Chrome Finish available for the first time in Europe, a finish previously available only in USA. Gretsch Drums have just introduced a new-for-2020 special edition to the Full Range family, the CS2, Catalina Special Edition Kit in Walnut Burst Gloss.  The competitively priced set is only available for a limited time.

The hybrid shell featuring a 7-ply walnut/maple construction has a warm, resonant tone delivering “That Great Gretsch Sound”.  The CS2, only available throughout 2020, features a shell with a natural wood interior that has been sealed to protect it for a lifetime and labelled specifying the year of production and the species of wood used in its manufacture.

Its visually striking satin wood counter hoops, secured with vintage-style hoop clips combined with 30-degree bearing edges offer a punchy, focused sound. The mounting hardware includes a “gas cap” bass drum mount plate and a direct-to-shell mount on the rack tom.

Gretsch Introduce Limited Edition River Cypress Kit

Gretsch Drums has recently introduced the River Cypress Limited Edition exotic kit to the USA Custom line.  New for 2020 and available in extremely limited quantities, this highly collectable, stunning finish has been hand crafted at the Gretsch USA factory. 

Each time-honored hybrid maple/gum shell is finished with a veneer from wood that is estimated to have been submerged for 60-150 years at the bottom of the Pee Dee River Basin in South Carolina, (near the historic Smiths Sawmill), located 120 miles from the Gretsch Factory.  The slow-growing, indigenous species benefits from the minerals in the river, giving it a beautiful gray patina.  Each drum’s exterior is hand-sprayed with clear nitro-cellulose gloss lacquer, while the interior is treated with Gretsch’s exclusive Silver Sealer.  

Andrew Shreve, Gretsch Brand Manager commented “The exciting appearance of this kit comes from the natural burst of the wood, which is a result of changes in the wood’s resin after being submerged for years. Only a small number of kits have been made; they are sure to become a collectors classic”.

Available in two configurations, only 60 kits will ever be crafted, each outfitted with a standard hardware build that includes Gretsch’s signature die cast hoops, bass drum mount with tom holder and 4825 direct-to-shell tom bracket. Gretsch Permatone heads by Remo USA complete the offering. 

The kits are available in two different configurations: standard 4-piece (22″ x 16″ bd, 12″ x 8″ rack, 16″ x 16″ ft & 14″ x 6.5″ snare) or bop (18″ x 14″ bd, 12″ x 8″ rack, 14″ x 14″ ft & 14″ x 5″ snare).

Latin Percussion Add A Host Of New Instruments For 2020

Latin Percussion have released a host of new products for 2020, including a signature Cajon in association with Efrain Toro, a ‘Dandy’ new cowbell, a selection of new rope-tuned djembes and additional instruments into their percussive accessory range.

Latin Percussion’s Woodshop and rhythmist, Efrain Toro have come together to create the USA made Toro Bravo Cajon.  

Constructed by a small team of passionate, California based craftsmen, using high grade materials the Toro Bravo Cajon, is an exceptional instrument that incorporates proprietary design elements and innovative, patented technology to deliver three distinct tones with ease. 

The secret to the sound of this unique instrument is achieved using a hybrid wood, Tapered Core along with an Optimized Grain Orientation soundboard that includes that is integrated with a Rapid Response Curve. A quarter-sawn, solid cedar body provides ample resonance, while an angled playing surface and self-aligning rubber feet make the Toro Bravo effortless to play. The sound is completed by four Adjustable Phosphor Bronze Strings.

 

Efrain Toro is renowned as one of the best all round percussionists in the world with a unique perspective and knowledge of many styles of music. As well as being a successful LA based studio musician he has recorded and performed globally and is also the author of 18 education books.

Also new-for-2020 is the limited edition, Dandy Bongo Cowbell, a tribute to the living legend that is John ‘Dandy’ Rodriguez.

‘Dandy’, long considered to be the bongo players Bongocero, is an icon on the salsa scene. He has a long association with LP and has been working with LP’s USA cowbell factory to create a set of two cowbells that achieve an elusive sound that he has sought for years. Only one hundred of these high pitched bells will be produced and each will be signed by John himself. 

The 8” hand held cowbells (Hi Bell LPJR1C, Lo Bell LPJR2C ) will be available in brushed steel or limited edition chrome finish. Both finishes will be available in either Hi or Lo tones. The Dandy Bongo Cowbells are made using a one piece steel construction to produce the higher pitch and lively overtone that is associated with Latin Music.

LP has also announced two new 12 1/2″ Rope Tuned Djembes in Siam Walnut and Siam Oak in a Dark Wood finish along with the Kessing-Kessing and X-Strap Percussion Holder.

The new Rope Tuned Djembes are modelled after traditional African drums and are designed to be played standing up with a strap, seated or on a stand. The djembes are 12 ½” in diameter and stand 25” tall and are fitted with natural goat skin heads using an Ever-Tune Rope tuning system, which provides an authentic sound and feel. Both shells offer incredible tone, from crisp slaps to rich deep bass notes.

The LP Kessing-Kessing is an interpretation of the traditional Africa djembe accessory. Supplied in a set of three, the instrument is constructed from lightweight aluminum and features steel rings to provide a dry rattling sound. Placed snugly in the webbing of a rope tuned djembe the Kessing- Kessing will react to the vibrations produced when the drum is played to add color to any performance. 

The LP X-Strap Percussion Holder has been designed to allow drummers to easily hold a djembe or other drum without compromising mobility. The 2” wide nylon strap attaches to the drum with heavy duty hooks and evenly distributes the weight of the drum and the soft, padded shoulder pads provide comfort for hours of playing.

Elsewhere, LP has introduced their new Circle Djembes. Part of the LP World Collection, the new 7-inch, rope tuned djembes offer stunning sound and extra durability with eye-catching looks for rhythm makers of all levels.  

The djembes are made of LP’s exclusive HD Shell Construction with a reinforced bearing edge making them lightweight and durable. The Synthetic Perfect-Pitch head is pre-tuned, impervious to climate conditions and ideal for educators and enthusiast of all levels. The Ever-Tune Rope, an essential part of these rope tuned Circle Djembes, gives long lasting tension reducing the need to continually retune. The new Circle Djembes are the perfect blend of Old-World traditions and the latest manufacturing techniques. Available in White, Red, Blue, Yellow, Purple, Blue Marble, Orange Marble and Green Marble.  

Finally, Latin Percussion has extended their accessory range with the addition of two new effects, the LP 18” Standard Red Oak Slapstick (LP555) and LP Standard Ratchet (LP558). 

LP’s 18-inch Standard Red Oak Slapstick is a quality handheld percussion instrument providing a professional orchestral sound. Easy to use, its high tension spring delivers the classic bullwhip sound for “Sleigh Ride”, Britten’s “The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra”, Copland’s “Rodeo” and a number of other musical compositions.

Drum Workshop Inc. have added a host of new finishes, configurations and features to its boutique-inspired PDP Concept Series Drums, along with the launch of a new range of PDP Concept Select Metal Snare Drums and fourteen new accessories to expand the growing PDP range of drum accessories.

PDP Concept Series Maple range sees Twisted Ivory, Satin Pewter, Satin Olive, Satin Seafoam and Satin Black finishes added to the choice of finishes and a new Carbon Fiber finish with black nickel hardware. Added to the PDP Concept Series Exotic Drums choice of finishes is the new Honey Mahogany. 

New configurations for PDP Concept Series Maple Drums are Bop (8”x12”, 14”x14” floor, 14”x18” kick) for a drummer with a lighter touch, Rock (9”x13”, 16”x16” floor, 14”x24” kick) for a more hard hitting style of playing and Fusion (8”x10”, 9”x12”, 14”x14” floor, 16”x20” kick) for the more eclectic player. 

The PDP Concept Series are loaded with high end features. The tom and kick drums are now constructed with 7-ply European maple shells for maximum resonance. The snare with 10-ply European Maple is fitted with the trusted DW Mag Throw-off. All the drums now come fitted with True-Pitch Tension Rods and Remo Drumheads. 

The PDP Aluminium Concept Select Snare has a seamless 3mm aluminum shell, fitted with satin walnut wood hoops and low-profile claw hooks. The aluminum shell creates a focused, dry tone with minimal overtones. The wood hoops add a warm earthy timbre whilst also enhancing playing comfort. 

Also joining the range is the PDP Bell Bronze Concept Select Snare. Its heavy 3mm seamless bell bronze shell produces a thick, dense sound with a massive punchy attack.

Completing the new additions is the versatile and powerful PDP Steel Concept Select Snare. Its 3mm seamless steel shell offers supreme definition combined with incredible sensitivity. 

All the snares are 6.5” x 14 in size and feature chrome hardware, True-Pitch® Tension Rods, DW Mag Throw-offs, Remo Drumheads and laser engraved PDP badges. 

PDP Brand Manager, Rob Dean, explains, “The idea behind these laser engraved heavy duty 3mm metal snares is to try and give people a boutique style snare that sounds amazing, looks great but won’t break the bank.”

Finally, Drum Workshop Inc. has released fourteen new additions to the PDP accessory range…

The new PDP Drop-Lock Hi Hat Clutches allows players to temporarily ‘drop’ the hi-hats together and play them closed. Two versions will be available the Standard Drop-Lock Hi Hat Clutch and Quick-Release Drop-Lock Hi Hat Clutch. 

Also included in the new PDP accessories a Boom Cymbal Arm assembly, a Heavy-Duty Multi-Clamp with Vari-Adjust Boom Arm and two L Arms, 10.5mm to ½” and ½” to ½”. PDP players can now enhance their kits with a whole new range of cymbal arms.

The new PDP Maple Counter Hoops and Standard Maple Counter Hoops for snares provide a very focused sound with a short sustain. They also give great control to the head and great cross sticking sound. 

PDP have also added a solid Maple Bass Drum Beater to give a clean clicking sound, a Lite-Weight 21” Aluminum Floor Tom Leg Set for maximum sustain and just in case M6 x 20mm and M8 x 20mm Wing Screws (2 Pack).
