Yamaha Drums has this morning announced that their Rec’n’Share app is now available on Android devices.
Connecting Rec’n’Share app to a Yamaha EAD10 module via USB allows drummers to use mobile devices to record drum performance videos with the great sound of the EAD10. Recorded material can then be trimmed and edited before being stored locally, uploaded to Dropbox or shared through social media.
The Yamaha Rec’n’Share app is available for iOS through the App Store and for Android through Google Play. The app is compatible with the EAD10 and the DTX402 series e-drum kits.
Everything You Need To Know About Electronic Drums For Live Performances
Joe Clegg is pleased to launch his ‘You’re So Hybrid!’ video series, an introduction to using Ableton Live with electronic drums for live music performance.
Drummer Joe Clegg, known for his long standing collaboration with Brit Award winner Ellie Goulding, is also the musical director for Grammy Award winners Clean Bandit and live music producer for fellow Grammy Award winners, Mumford & Sons. Joe has also worked as musical director for Sigrid, Aurora, Becky Hill, Tom Walker and more. In this online video series Joe breaks down his kit and rig set-up explaining in detail his approach to programming and playing on some of the world’s biggest pop gigs.
Ableton Live software is designed to help musicians, engineers and artists create and perform music. Joe incorporates electronic drum pads and triggers, hosting samples in Ableton, both in his setup and on his shows as a musical director, and explains how he uses it during live performances.
‘I personally think that there is beauty in the detail, that recreating a programmed drum part with accuracy is an art form in itself,’ Joe explains. ‘I might be the only person that gets excited at the thought of pop shows being played fully live, by musicians using technology as an instrument, without conventional backing tracks, but it’s more attainable than ever.’
In this three hour, fourteen part video series Joe demonstrates how to translate studio recordings into the live arena in a human and musical way. He also explains the techniques he uses when approaching electronic drums on a live show. In the videos he talks about selecting sounds, programming, automation, and how this works on stage in practice.
Within a musical context, Joe breaks down a track from the final mix to stems and back to the multi-tracks—rebuilding it piece by piece into a playable version, ready for stage. If you’re a drummer but totally new to MIDI, triggers, automation, and sample based drums from a DAW, you will discover a whole new world of possibilities.
Joe says ‘I use Ableton Live on almost every show I work on. It isn’t the only DAW used in the world of live music, but it is creative, versatile, and reliable. Ableton handles MIDI, samples, and software instruments in a unique way, designed with performance in mind.’
Recorded at Snap Studios in London, ‘Ableton Live for Drummers’ also includes three exclusive video performances of Joe’s original material, demonstrating how to incorporate electronic and acoustic drums, as well as outboard equipment, in three different set-ups together with downloadable samples.
Priced at £95 for lifetime access, Ableton Live for Drummers is available via www.artclub.live/alfd

Following their announcement earlier this week that Anika Nilles is set to perform at The UK Drum Show on Saturday 26 September 2020, they have today announced that another German drumming sensation, Jost Nickel, is also confirmed to be performing on Sunday 27 September in association with Meinl Cymbals.
Jost Nickel is one of the new breed of drummers emerging from Germany. A top session and touring player, like his friends and contemporaries Benny Greb, Marco Minnemann and Anika Nilles (one of Jost’s students), Jost is taking contemporary drumming in new directions.
He made his international debut as a clinician and educator with a performance at the Montreal Drum Fest in Canada (2010), followed by PASIC (USA) in 2012 & 2016, the Namm Show (USA) in 2015, the Meinl Drum Festival (2008, 2012 & 2016), the London Drum Show (2016), the Tam Tam Festival in Spain (2016) and the UK Drum Show in 2017.
His name appears within the credits of many hit records at home as well as abroad. In 2006 Jost joined German supergroup Jan Delay & Disko No.1 whose CDs have all gone straight to number #1 in the charts, with the artist selling out venues and packing festivals wherever he tours.
Jost was nominated “Best Clinician” by Modern Drummer Magazine in 2016 and was voted on MusicRadar’s list of “the 10 best drum clinicians in the world” in 2016 & 2017. He has written feature articles and workshops in Modern Drummer (USA), Drummer (UK), Rhythm & Drums (Japan), Batterie (France), Drums & Percussion (Germany) and other publications.
Jost has released two best-selling books through Alfred Publishing: “Jost Nickel’s Groove Book” (2015) and “Jost Nickel’s Fill Book” (2017), that any drummer of any level will benefit from.
Jost is known for his punchy, articulate drum sound, which he counterbalances with a jazzy, exotic cymbal wash. His ‘light and shade’ vibe reflects a cutting edge drummer who keeps one foot steeped in tradition, with a pocket and groove that is undeniable.
In addition to touring and recording, Jost, who studied at Drummers Collective in New York, is a tutor at the highly acclaimed University of Pop in Mannheim.
Drummer Salle de Jonge has joined the growing roster of artists who have chosen British Drum Co. drums as their instrument of choice. Salle’s decision to join British Drum Co. comes at the start of several exciting projects for the in-demand Dutch drummer.
Since graduating from the Rotterdam Conservatory in June 2006, Salle de Jonge (aka Salomon) has become recognised in the music industry as a dedicated, hard-working drummer. Salle is considered by many to be the go-to guy for hip, grooving beats with a unique, eclectic sound ranging from jazz to hip hop and all points in between. Salle has been fortunate to have shared the stage with some of the greats of Jazz & Soul, including Roy Hargrove, Kurt Rosenwinkel, The Three Degrees, Till Brönner, Ronny Jordan and Bennie Maupin, amongst others. For several years, Salle has been building his reputation on the domestic Dutch Jazz scene, playing and touring with Benjamin Herman, Mathilde Santing, Boris, Michiel Borstlap, Alain Clark, Edsilia Rombley and Loïs Lane, to name just a few.
Bands and projects he has been involved with include Shirma Rouse, LeslieNielsen, The Fresh Cuts and Sabrina Starke with whom he wrote, played and produced her self-titled album, released in September 2016 as well as its follow-up, released in 2018.
Currently, Salle is teaming up with renowned DJ Collective, Fremdtunes for their third “Breakbeats and Drumloops” sample library. Together they released a Volume 1 & 2 with beats, sounds and breaks, which was a global hit and has been “chopped” on tracks by famous DJs and producers worldwide. Salle has also been fortunate to work with Grammy Award winning Producer/Engineer Russel Elevado (Erykah Badu, D’Angelo, Alicia Keys,Al Green) on singer iET’s latest record, “So Unreal”.
British Drum Co., which launched in September 2015, was founded by master drum maker Keith Keough; Kasabian drummer Ian Matthews; top-level marching specialist Stu Warmington; product designer Alan Kitching; and award winning comedian and drum enthusiast Al Murray, aka The Pub Landlord. The ranks expanded when in 2017 The Verve & Charlatans drummer, Pete Salisbury, joined the company.
The UK Drum Show has just announced the first artist joining them on the main stage at their 2020 show is the incredible Anika Nilles, who will be appearing on Saturday 26 September (times TBC) in association with Meinl Cymbals.
Anika has built up a name for herself over the last six years as a YouTube sensation, boasting more than 17 million views for her drum videos featuring original compositions, as well as being a solo artist touring through Europe, China and North America. Anika’s playing style is distinguished by her strong groove, her finesse with regards technique and her unique sound. Her use of the drum set as an expressive instrument rather than just a rhythm keeper allows for extravagant playing without stealing the focus away from the music.
She has released various singles, as well as a debut album “Pikalar” (under Sakurai Records), all of which earned spaces on several of the top music charts all around the world. Upon release, “Pikalar” was immediately listed on the ‘iTunes 200 Top Rock Releases’ chart in the USA and climbed its way to number 113 (a remarkable feat for a mostly instrumental album).
Well-known in the drumming community, Anika has previously won the ‘Modern Drummer Readers Poll’ for ‘Up And Coming Artist’ as well as ‘#1 Rising Star’ in “DRUM!” Magazine in 2015 and 2016 as well as being voted `#3 for best educator`on UK Drummies awards in 2017. She also made it two- times ‘#2 best fusion drummer’ by “Modern Drummer Magazine” and most recently she won ‘#1 for best Clinician / Educator’ on “MusicRadar”.
With her most recent project NEVELL, Anika pulled together a group of three energetic and passionate musicians to help turn her music into a spectacular live show.
Drum Workshop Inc. (DW) has announced the reissue of the original Collector’s Series all-maple shell configuration. Named after the famed California beach town where Drum Workshop was founded, the shells offer yet another versatile sonic option for drummers and pay tribute to DW’s near 50 year drum-making legacy.
Hand-crafted from select plies North American Hard Rock maple at the California Custom Shop, the 6-ply shells utilize slightly thicker 1/32” veneers and are fitted with 6-ply reinforcement hoops offering a resonant-yet-focused tonality.
Drum Designer and Executive Vice President, John Good comments, “Our earliest artists still talk about these drums. Now we can offer them to a new generation. Feels strange to attach the work “vintage” to what we do, but it’s true! Santa Monica shells work for just about any playing situation, it’s a Swiss army knife of a shell”.
Available in any Custom Shop finish and drum hardware color option.
