Paiste 2002 Series Extreme Crash Cymbals – Drummer’s Review

Here’s our review of a selection of new-for-2019 Paiste 2002 Series crash cymbals, featuring…

  • 18″, 19″ & 20″ crashes,
  • Handmade from B8 bronze,
  • Distinctive red logo & lettering.

Paiste says…2002 cymbals were originally introduced in 1971 to address the sound needs of the revolutionary and rapidly expanding genres in electrified rock music. The warm, bright and powerful musical energy of 2002 cymbals has since been fundamental to the sound of countless legendary rock drummers. Part of the appeal of 2002 cymbals has always been their ability to “cut through the music”, enabling drummers to set musical accents even during heavily amplified situations. With the 2002 Extreme Crash, Paiste Sound Development’s objective was to take that ability to even higher levels.”

Gretsch New Orleans Round Badge Summit

0

The Gretsch Drums Round Badge Dealer summit in New Orleans, which took place on June 12th 2019 at the world-class Parlor recording Studios, came to a stunning conclusion at Tipitina’s with a concert performance directed by Stanton Moore, with Keith Carlock and an all-star band.

The summit event was attended by key DW & Gretsch Drums staff including special appearances by Fred Gretsch (4th Generation family member) and Chris Lombardi (President, Drum Workshop).

Jazz, funk and rock drummer Stanton Moore is a native of New Orleans and a founding member of the band Galactic. Known for his explosive groove he was the perfect host and demonstrator for the Gretsch products. Joining him to present Gretsch’s drums was Keith Carlock (Steely Dan), the perfect accompaniment to Moore with his own take on rock and fusion. These two drummers, who perform so naturally together, played impeccably as they showed an assortment of current USA factory instruments plus sneak previews of future releases!

Supporting this amazing drumming duo was a band featuring Tony Hall (Bass), David Torkanowsky (Keys), Ian Neville(Vocals), Robert Mercurio (Bass), Brad Walker (Saxophone) and the Hornstars.

To see and hear our instruments played by two amazing drummers,’ said Andrew Shreve, Gretsch Brand and Artist Relations manager ‘was an incredibly exciting way to demonstrate that great Gretsch sound. The evening’s concert with the star-studded band was an outstanding end to an exceedingly successful day.’

Gretsch Drums are pleased to announce that Sean Paddock, drummer for country star Kenny Chesney, Andrew Marshall the rhythmic core behind teenage sensation Billie Eilish and Tedeschi Trucks Band dual drummer team, Tyler Greenwell and J.J.Johnson, have just become official endorsers.

Sean Paddock

Sean Paddock, awarded Country Drummer of the Year in 2015 by Drum Magazine, has been the drummer for the multi-award winning Kenny Chesney since 1996. He was with him throughout the record breaking 2018 Trip Around the Sun which crossed the million person mark, and will be playing his Gretsch drum on the current  Songs for the Saints tour.

Providing the rock-solid beat for the most talked about teen in the world, Billie Eilish, on her record breaking debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? is Andrew Marshall. Following her Coachella debut and huge surge in popularity Billie Eilish and her band were recently bumped up to a higher slot at this year’s Glastonbury festival.

The Grammy award winning Tedeschi Truck Band’s debut album featured double drummers Tyler Greenwell and J.J.Johnson playing in tandem. They skillfully combine good taste with elegant chops, integrating smart ideas which allow them to stay out of each other’s way yet still deliver a flaming performance. The band will be touring the States and Japan this summer.

It is incredibly exciting to welcome Sean, Andrew, Tyler and J.J to the Gretsch Drums Family,’ said Andrew Shreve, Gretsch Brand and Artist Relations manager, ‘what these drummers, from diverse backgrounds and musical genres, share is a passion for that immediately recognizable, great Gretsch sound. We are honored to be able to make drums that inspire them to play.’

UFO Lands In The UK

0

Active Music have recently announced the exclusive distribution of UFO Low Volume Cymbals for the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland., and will be debuting them at The UK Drum Show 2019 this September.

UFO Low Volume Cymbals are developed to behave like traditional cymbals, only at a reduced volume. Enabling the user to play like they would normally, but quieter, making it more comfortable for both the player and those around them.

UFO Low Volume Cymbals feel and respond like traditional cymbals – all the way from the bell to the edge, they even have some of the same sound characteristics. Ideal for any situation where volume needs to be kept to a minimum, be it practice at home or a performance in a smaller, intimate, venue. The cymbals also work great for making stacks with traditional cymbals.

The UFO Low Volume Cymbals are made from durable zinc, and are available in two sets, (14, 16, 20 or 14, 16, 18, 20), complete with bag, or as individual cymbals.
