Wincent Joins Exhibitors at The UK Drum Show 2023

0

Wincent Drumsticks is a Swedish company that creates drumsticks and other tools for drummers all over the world. They are known for their durability and have some of the greatest drummers on the planet on their roster like Tomas Haake (Meshuggah), Mikkey Dee (ex Motörhead, Scorpions), El Estepario Siberiano (online drummer) Aron Mellergård (Dirty Loops), Per Lindvall (ABBA), Michael Miley (Rival Sons) and Tobines (online drummer).

In 1992 Dan Nylén started to make rods in his parents’ garage. After the worldwide success with the Wincent rods, and then later on brushes, Dan started to think about making drumsticks. After several years of research, Dan started to design his own drumstick machines.

Wincent has developed a one-of-a-kind way to turn their Kentucky born wood into drumsticks. First of all, all hickory is hand selected and dried carefully for maximized durability. Secondly, as the only drumstick company in the world, Wincent grinds the whole drumstick with one big grinding stone instead of using multiple grinding stones or wood lathes. This makes the drumsticks extremely balanced, straight and gives them a satin smooth surface.

The drumsticks are then sealed with a secret, Eco-friendly, water based, wax formula. The Unique Wax Protection gives both a great grip and makes the sticks more durable since the wax goes into the wood, preventing it from cracking up easily.

Before the sticks leaves the factory, they are printed with the Wincent logo, model name and Butt End Print, for an easy way to find your favorite sticks in store or in your drumstick bag, then the pairs are matched by weight.

The UK Drum Show look forward to welcoming Wincent to The UK Drum Show at the ACC Liverpool for the first time for 2023. Please be sure to stop by and say hello.

Gary Husband Returns To The UK Drum Show 2023

0

With just over 12 months and counting, organisers of The UK Drum Show are pleased to announce Gary Husband will appear at next years event after sadly not being able to attend this year.

Gary will be appearing in association with Pearl Drums, Paiste Cymbals, Remo Drumheads, Promark Drum Sticks and Prologix Pads

Gary Husband is unique among musicians in that his expression and professional demand is divided equally between his capacities as both a drummer and a pianist/keyboardist of international repute. His classical roots, quest and development in the improvisational jazz and jazz/fusion areas – not to mention his tenure in the pop, rock, funk and blues circuits – are all evident inside Gary’s distinct and far-reaching musical personality. His compositional output over the years has reinforced his status also as an acclaimed writer and arranger in the contemporary music world.
For close to four decades Gary, on both his principal instruments, has worked alongside a vast and eclectic range of celebrated musicians including John McLaughlin, Allan Holdsworth, Jeff Beck, Jack Bruce (Cream), Gary Moore (Thin Lizzy), British pop/funk band Level 42, Billy Cobham, Al Jarreau, Mike Stern (Miles Davis), John Wetton (King Crimson), Chris Squire (Yes), Andy Summers (The Police), Steve Hackett (Genesis), Robin Trower (Procol Harum), and with producers Sir George Martin (Beatles), Trevor Horn (Grace Jones & Art of Noise), Quincy Jones (Michael Jackson), Jerry Hey and James Guthrie (Pink Floyd).
Gary’s typically diverse musical associations and performing/recording credits are also extensive. Husband has worked with Randy Brecker, Chick Corea, Jan Hammer, Jerry Goodman, fusion/jam band Gongzilla, Germany’s NDR Bigband, Soft Machine, Maria Schneider, Christian McBride, Eddie Van Halen, Jack DeJohnette, Bob Berg, Nguyên Lê, Joe Lovano, Charles Tolliver, Bireli Lagrène, Peter Erskine, Ron Sexsmith, Dewa Budjana, Marcus Reuter and drum n’ bass protagonists Lemon ‘D’ and Dillinja.
As an internationally established drum clinician he has performed alongside Dennis Chambers, Vinnie Colaiuta, Terry Bozzio, Billy Cobham, Simon Phillips, Omar Hakim, Ricky Lawson, Todd Sucherman, Paul Wertico, Denny Seiwell and Bernard Purdie, and most recently has been developing a series of uniquely motivational videos for drummers – The Gary Husband Drum Videocast Series .
His alter-ego as a pianist/keyboard player brings an extra dimension to his musicality at the drums. Indeed, Gary has been the keyboardist & second drummer in John McLaughlin’s 4th Dimension since 2007 and he continues to devote a substantial proportion of his time recording and performing worldwide across many styles of music.
As a composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist he has made four album recordings as a co-leader, and is currently in preparations for the recording of “One” (his twelfth solo album to date) which features an innovative selection of new compositions for piano/keyboards and drums performed simultaneously. He also in production of a new electric album: Gary Husband & (guitarist) Alf Terje Hana – “The Trackers”, and has recorded again with John McLaughlin on both his instruments for his upcoming album “Liberation Time”.

Gretsch Brooklyn Shell Pack – Drummer’s Review

Here’s our review of a Gretsch Brooklyn Shell Pack, featuring…

  • 22″ x 18″ bass drum,
  • 10″ x 7″ rack tom,
  • 12″ x 8″ rack tom,
  • 16″ x 14″ floor tom,

  • Gretsch silver sealer finished interior,
  • Remo (Gretsch branded) Permatone heads fitted throughout.

Gretsch Says…“Brooklyn, New York and Gretsch Drums share an inseparable legacy that is reflected in the Gretsch Brooklyn Series. Proudly hand-crafted in Gretsch’s Ridgeland, SC, USA factory, Gretsch Brooklyn produces a sound that is immediately recognizable, yet distinctively reinvented. Brooklyn drums feature 6-ply North American maple/poplar shells and are made slightly thicker than Gretsch’s USA Custom Drums and have a 30-degree bearing edge. Shell interiors are finished with classic Gretsch Silver Sealer. Each shell comes with a distinctive Brooklyn internal shell label that identifies the drum shell model number and serial number.

Brooklyn toms and snares feature the distinctive Gretsch “302” hoop. Its 3mm thick and double-flanged and is reminiscent of hoops used by Gretsch until the mid 1950’s. Brooklyn delivers classic Gretsch tones that are full, punchy and warm. Brooklyn’s innovative specifications created a new Gretsch tonal characteristic that is slightly more open and satisfyingly ambient. There is no denying that Brooklyn drums possess the sound of classic Gretsch drums, but deliver their own sonic personality.”
