  • 24″ x 13″ bass drum,
  • 13″ x 9″ rack tom,
  • 16″ x 16″ floor tom,

  • 21-ply, 11mm thick birch shells,

Jalapeno says…In a world full of mass-produced drums, Jalapeno Drums stand out as a shining jewel, offering the customer complete customization combined with hand-made individuality. Now in it’s tenth year of trading, each and every drum is still lovingly hand-crafted, to order, by drummer / craftsman David Nuttall: an Englishman who is as passionate about building drums as you are about playing them!

Using only the finest quality Finnish Birch plywood, solid brass lugs, and tone-enhancing oils, combined with construction techniques which maintain the natural sound properties of the shell, the fullest-toned, most resonant and responsive drums are achieved. David’s philosophy is simple: “aim to please.”

Many ‘custom’ drums in today’s market are simply mass produced shells with your choice of finish added. With Jalapeno Drums, your drum is hand-made from scratch for you.  With choices of plies, colours, finishes, depths and diameters, you get to choose exactly what you want. Plus you get the opportunity to talk through your ideas, enabling a fully informed choice that will ensure that the sound you want is the sound you get. As they say; ‘the world is your lobster…’”

Flagship American Drum Brand Joins DW Family

0

Drum Workshop, Inc. (DW) recently announced the acquisition of the Slingerland drum brand from the Nashville-headquartered guitar icon Gibson. Principals from both companies inked the undisclosed deal that will see the Slingerland name be shepherded by the award-winning, California-based custom drum maker.

“No question Slingerland is one of the great American drum brands. It’s also near and dear to my father’s heart.  He played Slingerland, as did many of his friends and fellow drummers. The history is undeniable,” commented DW CEO, Chris Lombardi.

Founded by H.H. Slingerland, the Illinois-based musical instrument manufacturer began producing drums in 1928 and has remained a favorite among vintage drum enthusiasts. The company’s most noted artist affiliations included greats such as Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa and Louie Bellson. Slingerland was family owned and operated for more than 60 years. During the ‘70s and ‘80s the name was procured by several different companies, including Gretsch. In 1994 Gretsch sold Slingerland to Gibson Musical Instruments, where it has remained until today.

“In recent months we’ve been working really hard to put the Slingerland brand and that amazing ‘drum essence’ into the right hands,” said Gibson CEO James “J.C.” Curleigh. “I’m really proud and pleased to say that DW is now the owner of Slingerland.” He continued “All of us here at Gibson want to thank Chris for persevering on this and we know Slingerland is in great hands.”

Slingerland joins a collection of American brands that also includes DW Drums, Gretsch Drums, Latin Percussion, Pacific Drums and Percussion and Ovation Guitars. DW is set to announce plans for a new generation of Slingerland instruments in the coming year.

Joe Clegg Launches ‘You’re So Hybrid’ Video Series

Everything You Need To Know About Electronic Drums For Live Performances

Joe Clegg is pleased to launch his ‘You’re So Hybrid!’ video series, an introduction to using Ableton Live with electronic drums for live music performance.

Drummer Joe Clegg, known for his long standing collaboration with Brit Award winner Ellie Goulding, is also the musical director for Grammy Award winners Clean Bandit and live music producer for fellow Grammy Award winners, Mumford & Sons. Joe has also worked as musical director for Sigrid, Aurora, Becky Hill, Tom Walker and more. In this online video series Joe breaks down his kit and rig set-up explaining in detail his approach to programming and playing on some of the world’s biggest pop gigs.

Ableton Live software is designed to help musicians, engineers and artists create and perform music. Joe incorporates electronic drum pads and triggers, hosting samples in Ableton, both in his setup and on his shows as a musical director, and explains how he uses it during live performances.

I personally think that there is beauty in the detail, that recreating a programmed drum part with accuracy is an art form in itself,’ Joe explains. ‘I might be the only person that gets excited at the thought of pop shows being played fully live, by musicians using technology as an instrument, without conventional backing tracks, but it’s more attainable than ever.’

In this three hour, fourteen part video series Joe demonstrates how to translate studio recordings into the live arena in a human and musical way. He also explains the techniques he uses when approaching electronic drums on a live show. In the videos he talks about selecting sounds, programming, automation, and how this works on stage in practice.

Within a musical context, Joe breaks down a track from the final mix to stems and back to the multi-tracks—rebuilding it piece by piece into a playable version, ready for stage. If you’re a drummer but totally new to MIDI, triggers, automation, and sample based drums from a DAW, you will discover a whole new world of possibilities.

Joe says ‘I use Ableton Live on almost every show I work on. It isn’t the only DAW used in the world of live music, but it is creative, versatile, and reliable. Ableton handles MIDI, samples, and software instruments in a unique way, designed with performance in mind.’

Recorded at Snap Studios in London, ‘Ableton Live for Drummers’ also includes three exclusive video performances of Joe’s original material, demonstrating how to incorporate electronic and acoustic drums, as well as outboard equipment, in three different set-ups together with downloadable samples.

Priced at £95 for lifetime access, Ableton Live for Drummers is available via www.artclub.live/alfd
