“In use and we really enjoyed the warmth that this pair produced. They had good stick definition although felt quite soft when playing. “

Paiste Says…Masters Dark Flat Ride: Dark, smoky, warm, mellow. Fairly narrow range, complex mix. Soft, responsive feel, controllable. Warm, articulate ping with dark, smoky, slightly trashy wash. Well suited for fast, subtle playing in soft to medium loud situations.

Signature Traditionals Light Flat Ride: Dark, warm, smoky. Narrow range, complex mix. Soft, buttery feel. Pretty sizzling ping over smoky quiet undertones. Great for quiet articulated playing.

“In terms of sound the, 2002 models give a fairly bright, clean sound that sings out through the studio nicely. “

2002 Flat Ride: Fairly bright, warm, sweet. Fairly narrow range, clean mix. Soft, responsive feel, very controllable. Silvery pearling ping over warm, controlled wash. A clear, classic flat ride sound with a bit more strength.

20″ 2002 Flat Ride: £354.00

20″ Signature Traditionals Light Flat Ride: £587.00

A Note From Paul…

“The microphones were set up with the overheads and room mic’s measured to the centre of the snare drum to keep the phase of any stereo pair in phase. The AEA R88 MK2 mic’s being stereo mic’s had no issue with phase but the front centre room mic and centre overhead where aligned with each other to keep the same stereo image. The phase reverse switch on the front kick mic was used to correct the phase between the two bass drum mic’s. The phase reverse switch was engaged on the bottom snare mic to correct the phase between the two snare mic’s. Hi pass filters only used on the hi hat mic, Ride mic and overheads. The live room of the studio has been treated to provide a neutral sound close to the drums & cymbals with the room mic’s then giving a true representation of what the instruments sound like in the room. Using 16 identical Mic Pre amps also helps with electrical phase so there is no difference between tone and phase of the Mic Pre amps. The brief for the recoding was to give as true a representation as possible of what the instruments actually sound like.”

Filmed at Paul Caboche Studios (Cornwall, UK), July 2024. Scroll down for recording / production details.

“The Muffin gives a pretty much muted sound which when used in the right musical setting gives a truly authentic retro sound reminiscent of so many classic recordings from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.”

Mr Muff Says…“Since 2022, the products of Mr. Muff are manufactured in the Rohema factory. The muffling devices work with an on/off concept. Drummers can use them to create a quick sound change without first having to make complex modifications to the drum set.”

“…the bass muff which gives a lovely, full tone when applied, with the reduction in volume replaced by depth and warmth. “

A Note From Paul…

“The microphones were set up with the overheads and room mic’s measured to the centre of the snare drum to keep the phase of any stereo pair in phase. The phase reverse switch was engaged on the bottom snare mic to correct the phase between the two snare mic’s. Hi pass filters only used on the hi hat mic, Ride mic and overheads. The AKG C414B mic’s on the toms have very little proximity bass boost so can be considered a pretty flat representation of the toms. The same can be said for the Electrovoice PL80 mic’s on the snare drum. Every effort was made so that the NO EQ sound example audio on the video was as true a representation of what the drums sounded like in the live room. The live room of the studio has been treated to also provide a neutral sound close to the drums with the room mic’s then giving a true representation of what the drums sound like in the room. Using 16 identical Mic Pre amps also helps with electrical phase so there is no difference between tone and phase of the Mic Pre amps. The brief for recoding the drums was to give as true a representation as possible of what the drums actually sound like and to then give examples of what can be done to the sound of the drums.”

Influenced by his father, also a musician, and immersed in a vibrant musical environment from an early age, Kevin has developed a unique approach that seamlessly blends emotion, rhythm, and passion. His craft has been further refined through studies with New Orleans legend Johnny Vidacovich and other esteemed musicians, including Herman Jackson, Todd Sucherman, Dave Elitch, and Daniel Glass. In addition to his performance career, Kevin conducts drum clinics and works within large congregation churches throughout central Texas.

Kevin shares his excitement about joining the SONOR family, stating, “SONOR drums are made with an uncompromising commitment to quality craftsmanship and detail. The rich history of the brand is unmatched in the drum industry. There is an undeniable difference in the sound and feel of a SONOR drum, and they never ever disappoint. Others make drums that make sound, but SONOR drums make music.”

Henry Go, Artist Relations Manager for SONOR USA, remarked, “Kevin is a wonderful musician and a fantastic educator. I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with Kevin over the years in other capacities, and I am delighted to partner with him here at SONOR.”
